Stereo installation - harness ques.
I am thinking of changing the OEM Blaupunkt Reno in my '88 930. I am hesitant to cut off the old harness. Instead I may leave the original wiring harness and install new wires to the fuse box, ground, etc. Crutchfield can provide adapters for the speaker wire connectors, so I wouldn't need to install new wires to the speakers. From a collector's point of view, does this make sense or should I not worry about it?

check out www.swstereo.com and call the owner Stephan, they can make you a adapter to wire any a new radio to your factory wires so you do not have to modify your cars original wiring. They made one so I could use a new Blaupunkt where the Reno ws in my 1987. If you have a unmolested car then I think you would want to keep it that way. The advertise in Panorama and specialize in German cars.

From a collector's point of view... definitely keep the old Blaupunkt for future re-install. Where I live one cannot get antique/collector's plates if anything has been visibly modified, including the stereo.

Thanks for the info. I'll call Stephan and get an adapter. I will definitely keep the old Blaupunkt Reno too. It's marked with a Porsche part number so it will always be kept with the car.
I'm thinking of putting in a JVC HD radio and will post photos when it's done. |
