door buzzer question

hi. the door buzzer was making me insane so i located this thing...pic below...behind the dashboard that was making the noise...i tugged on it and it pulled right off and the noise is gone. is it ok to operate the car without doing anything more , or, does this "thing" do more than just the buzzer?
Thanks - im no good with electrical stuff

It's not needed at all....I pulled mine the day I bought the car and it runs fine. You might want to put a piece of duct tape over the empty socket to keep any crud from building up in there.

where is it located behind the dash?
Is it the right most of the 3 relays behind the gas gauge?

Are there any "modern" replacement door chimes (with a more pleasing sound) that can replace the 80 buzzer?

srandallf, you've done well. Many of us have removed the warning relays. Watch out, you'll be reversing your wipers in no time.

poohsan, that's the funny thing: Why would a company that cared enough to ensure that our doors close with that distinctive "ting" go along with a relay warning system that sounds -- to put it politely -- so old-agedly sick?

Keeping things in my SC quiet ...

Does anyone know where the buzzer itself is located? I believe this relay also controls the seatbelt warning light. If someone can point out the location of the buzzer perhaps it could be substituted for a different chime (or maybe a soft, sexy recording saying "I missed you" when you open the door).

I think it is one of the relay behind the fuel gauge. There are several of them in there and I don't know which is which.
The below is what I got from Jascha reponse to my question on another thread.

Originally there were probably 4-relays located as follows: from left to right
(left two gauges removed)
1- power window relay
2- warning buzzer relay
3- windshield washer relay
4- turn signal / emergency flasher relay (back row)

To identify the relay in question, remove the fuel/oil gauge (and maybe the pressure/temp gauge, too), open the car door and turn ignition switch to "on". You can then feel the offending relay buzzing.
