anyone know why my 964 is shutting down while driving?

does anyone know why my 964 just stops for no apparent reason while im driving? its 1992 C2 tip. with 76000 miles. while im driving the system error light comes on and the car just dies completley. i can still turn it over to try and restart it but it wont fire for a few minutes. the same problem occurs if i stop after driving for a bit and try to restart it straight away. it wont. again it'll a few minutes to fire. problems also happens if you repeatedly start and switch off the car. after a couple of cycles it will refuse to start. im lost but ive ruled out the alarm as ive had it checked. any help or idea's?????????

Fuel pump, and/or relay. But that's just a wild guess...

look on the fuse box cover for the DME relay position. there's a number and arrow next to each relay.

hey thanks will do. do these relays generally give trouble?

Had the same problem with my 3.6, until one day it just wouldn't start. I tried a new relay with no results then put in a new fuel pump. Turns out the 30 year old fuel pump just wore out. Now I have a spare relay which is good to have.

It's one of the following, but you should change all 3 due to the age of the car.

DME Relay <-- most likely culprit
Crank sensor
Head temp sensor

Good luck.

BTW, it IS NOT the fuel pump.

Edit: I didn't even read your last post. Looks like you read my mind.
