Hi, I recently moved back to Walnut Creek, in the bay area, from Santa Barbara CA. I want to know, where do the local pelican heads that reside in the east bay take their porsches to have them worked on??? You know what i'm saying, like that one place where theres that mechanic thats just really good with a particular car, in this case, porsches. I tried Valhalla in Lafayette and didnt get anywhere. The owner treats his customers as if their supposed to lick the **** off his shoes or somethin. I dont know. Anyway, if anybody knows of an honest, fair porsche garage around here, I'd greatly appreciate it.
thanks, -William Shields |

Tom Amon. Mobile Works West. 408/429-0545.
He does the work at your house. Great guy, great work. Reasonable prices.

Although I haven't used him, I've heard good things about Tom Martenot at Deutsche Motor Sport in Concord - 925-689-0232. Couldn't hurt to give him a call.

Tom Amon is great. I can also highly recommend Tom Martenot at Deutsche Motorsport in Concord (he's WAY better than John at Valhalla...who I too have had snob issues with).

Tom Martenot in Concort +2. He takes care of both my cars and saves me money every track day when I call him with some random question or concern.

Join the PCA and do some networking. If it is just a plain old street car... there are many choices... but I'd stick with one that is well known in PCA. If you plan on some AX or track driving, I'd suggest adding the additional requirement that your chosen person(s) are active with customers using their cars for similar purposes.... like Matt Shriner mentions of Tom Martenot-- he is great in that case. If/when you graduate more toward hard core time trialing and/or racing and making more serious changes, then you may want to go beyond Tom.
In any case, use the PCA as a good guide as all of the SF Bay ARea regions are pretty active and supportive.

All three guys mentioned are great. But I used Tom Amon last month. He came to my house and fixed all that I requested, he even made some suggestions for future upgrades.
( He also has 28 years experience! ) ![]() ![]() Last edited by Cali 911; 05-28-2007 at 05:39 AM.. |

john at valhalla is hot/cold. he does some great work as far as stock cars go. he is really really good. he has extensive experience in racing too. you just have to not take any of his schit personally. he has adjusted my mixture four times now without charging me. i used him for a tune up on my 75 car once. (now i learned and DIY) he noticed that i fixed a bunch of stuff on my own. he tuned my car, welded a few suspension parts, and took the time to make a list of stuff i still needed to fix. he saw what i already did, and told me that in his opinion he felt that i could DIY everything on his list. i put his list up in my garage, and treated it like a checklist. i did them all. that car is still kicking butt! (my bro has it). he is a good guy. dont write him off yet.
tom at deutch motorsport is cool. honestly he can be a grouch too.

I bought my 1971 E from a guy in the East Bay and he (and the original owner) had the car serviced at Valhalla. I never had any interaction with Valhalla, but my receipts folder shows invoices going back a few decades. The car runs like a clock, so they must have known what they were doing.
