Bilsteins? need to replace mine
 

What do I want sport/ orginal? other? I can't afford to swap out the strut but need new shocks. What is my best option? thanks adam

please help, i need to get them ordered to get it out of the shop. currently sitting on stands waiting

Find the Bilstien site online and get their phone number, call them in the morning. They can rebuild your shocks and upgrade them to heavy duty if you want. But if you upgrade them you have to upgrade your torsion bars as well.
Unless your racing your car you might want to just stick with the stock set up. It will get you back in your car and driving much sooner and less expensively

I have new Bilstein Sports in my '88. The car rides pretty hard. The shop where I take my car, S Car Go, uses a revalved Bilstein Sport, suggesting that they like a softer rate than the Sport provides but a harder rate than the HD provides. If you don't want to pay for specially valved shocks, but have to choose between the two, bite the bullet and go for the Sports. Leave the "sugarfree" stuff for your other car.

did I mix up the two? HD's are stock? My point is and if you read the threads you will see it has nothing to do with sugar free or macho it has to do with the springs and the shocks working together instead of against each other. If you stiffen the shocks and leave everything else stock the springs will not be able to push the shocks back into correct position fast enough. The car will skip more and have less control than the stock set up. Yes, it will feel stiffer. But if you go over a series of speed bumps the shocks will compress more and more until they bottom out and the springs will not be strong enough to compensate.
Skipping can be fun though.

If you have the (stock) Boge struts on your car you can just get Bilstien inserts.
For a stock car, the HD's are the way to go in the front.

FWIW; I have an 87 Carrera Targa that weighs approximately 2,460lbs. The suspension is stock, but it is lowered to just below Euro height. I installed Bilstein Sports and I am completely satisfied with the ride.

I use my car for a short commute to work 2-3 days per week and take it to the twisties most weekends.
