Vaseline Fuchs +1
Just Vaseline'ed my Fuchs for the first time today - applied with finger, let sit for 20 minutes, rubbed off with an old shirt - and I highly endorse this approach!
The improvement is staggering. Babak |
Ok, on the black or the lip? I have searched and never found the answer. Thanks!
|
- on the Black. It doesn't seem to have any effect on the lip or the centre-cap.
|
Thank you! What to do about the lip? Mine has this funny haze look. BTW, I did try a little on the lip and the black on one rim tonight. It did have a dramatic effect on the black.

I don't rightly know about the lip - mine usually cleans up nicely with the regular whole-car wash / pressure-water. Anyone else have any suggestions?
|
I've used Vaseline on the anodized lip and found that it worked really well. I have to reapply once a month to keep them looking good. If not, the spots (like waterspots) start to reappear.
|
It works on the black & gives a nice satin-type finish but the dramatic results are on the silver anodized part where it performs a minor miracle.

Any before and after photo's? Going to try this weekend.

I've always done the entire wheel, black, silver, all of it. Looks great. I just use an old rag to apply it liberally to the wheel. When I am done with all four wheels I take another old rag and buff off the excess.
|
Very interesting. I've never heard of this. Looking forward to some before and after shots.
|
Wow, now I can't wait to try it out on the rims. I got a little on the edges and it seemed to have minimal effect - maybe my rims are already clean enough.
I don't have the camera this week for an "after" - but even if I did my lugnuts are embarrassing. =) Anyone else have a before/after? If not I'll see if I can borrow one tonight. Babak |

"Every three month (after regular cleaning) the wheels should be be coated with petroleum jelly. Rub it in firmly with a soft cloth. etc." Gotta give it a try. Since I haven't cleaned my wheel yet, I'll take some before and after pix. |
Pics? Why? Just try it yourself & see.
Wash the wheel - mild soap only, please. When dried, they will be streaked with different hues of silver due to anodizing breakdown. Apply Vaseline & wipe off. And yes, it's in the manual & has been discussing at length here & Pano & Fixin' etc etc. Ian |
I've tried vaseline (owner's manual) and wax (per recommendation of John Paterek). Prefer wax.

Astroglide? I don't want wheels that taste funny...
I have three more wheels. Any experiments? |
Not sure if it is in the manual, but I use it on the black targa bar as well. No issues.

It looks like your Fuchs need a dose of Wurth Satin Black. Mine were about the same as yours & a couple of rattle cans later, they look great. Ian |
