SC Expert or Shop Needed in Danville, Illinois Area

I'm looking to hire an expert or knowledgeable with SC's or Carrera's who can do a PPI including a compression and leakdown test.

Semi nearby Danville is Champaign, Terra Haute, Lafayette.

Please pass along any names of individuals or shops.

Thanks,

Mike

Danville IL? That is 10 miles from where I am originally from.

As of 5 years ago (when I moved to AL) there were no Porsche mechanics in the immediate area. The PCA regional mechanic who lived in Champaign retired and moved to Arizona.

Lukesportsman lives in Terre Haute, ~50 miles SE.

Is this car in Danville? If it has been in the Danville area a while I should know the car. I doubt if there are a half dozen 911s in all of Vermilion county.

Post some details, I should be able to find something out for you. I will be traveling back to the area next weekend.

I grew up in and just outside Danville too! Moved just North of town when I was 10 and went to BHHS. Where you from L8?

It's got to be a later car. The only early car I know of there is a 66 Bahama Yellow 912 on it's last legs. Old retired Engineer from GM still driving it daily. I think it's on it's third pan!

Don't know of any shops in the area though. I'd say Champaign is the best bet. Indy is less than an hour and a half away from Danville.

Recalling from 10 years ago, there was a guy named Bill Weiggin (sp) in Mohomet (east side of Champaign).

I am note sure if he is still in the business.

There is a shop in Peoria I would recommend if needed.

Bill Wegeng had a shop in Mohomet but retired and moved to Arizona a few years ago. He did a lot of the body assembly on my car.

I was born and raised in Chrisman IL, about 20 miles south of Danville. My wife is from Georgetown, about 10 miles south of Danville. Georgetown is where we lived previous to moving down south.

I don't recall ever seeing an SC or Carrera when I lived there. Could have been hidden away or it came to town after I left.

Indianapolis is 100 miles due east on I74.
Terre Haute is 50 miles SE on Rt63.
Champaign/Urbana is 30 miles due west on I74.

Those are your closest options.

Cool! My dad grew up in So. Danville and was a local terror to you Georgetown and Westville boys. All of my family is still there in the Central Ill./ Ind. areas. Man I miss the sweet corn!

Thanks Brian, 70SATMan, and Mookster,

Thanks for the responses!

Actually the owner referred me to Bill Wegren (sp?) in Arizona. I spoke with Bill about the car I'm going to purchase. Bill worked on the car and knew the owner. Bill was extremely helpful and knowledgeable.

As I understand from both of you, as well as Bill W., there isn't a Porsche orientated shop in the Danville area. But a good friend (911 expert and a longtime Pelican member) has come to my rescue and offered to do a PPI. Yes, he is willing to ride with me 600 miles, look the car over, and then help me trailer the car back 600 miles. What a friend!!!

Re the shop in Peoria, I'll bet you mean Kauth & Mayeur. I bought my first and only other Porsche ('88 944 Turbo S) in the Peoria area and I had Kauth & Mayeur do a PPI. It was a very good shop IMO.

Thanks again,

Mike

Mike - who's car is this? If Bill worked on it I'm sure I know it as well. Our PCA region didn't have a lot of members and was a fairly tight community.

Bill's last name is spelled Wegeng and pronounced "wiggin". Great guy and extremely knowledgable.
