To PPI or not to PPI

I am looking at putchasing an 86 3.2, owner still asking a bit too much but we are not that far away. I have seen and driven the car, its a single owner vehicle with every service record from new, this has been a spare no expense owner. While I was contemplating the car, the owner voluntarily took the car for a PPI so he could get an idea of everything for himself. The shop he took it to was the one I would have used,it was recommended by fellow pelicans and I have seen nothing but good things about him on this board, as well as the ferrari chat rooms etc, and he is very active with the PCA. If we can resolve the price issue do I take the car for another PPI?

If it were me, I'd probably be satisfied with just getting a copy of the report... maybe have a chat with the mechanic as well.

If your gonna get a PPI done, you may as well take it to a different mechanic though...

Is the shop where the PPI was done the same shop that maintained the car? If so, then I'd definitely get another one. A PPI is cheap insurance and peace of mind. Frankly, I'd get another one if I were in your shoes.

+1
Getting your own PPI is almost mandatory, IMO.

agreed. I'd just do it out of my pocket if you're that into the car.

If he's reputable, and well known locally I'd take that into account. Won't hurt to have one last check before you release the funds tho.

For the most part the car was maintained at the dealership, this mechanic did a service on it a year back. I have spoken with the mechanic and he seems straight, maybe what I will do is take it elsewhere and get the mechanicals checked. A compression test was done (145-150), so maybe I'll have someone else do a leak down.

If you're going to go to the hassle of taking it somewhere else for a compression test and/or leak down test, you might as well have a full PPI done.

My $.02.

I didn´t do a PPI as my ex wife´s new bloke assured me the car was mint.

Turned out he was telling the truth, but skipping on the PPI is generally bad advice.
