Help! '80 3.0 4500 rpm stutter
I had a blown head gasket, so I tore apart the engine, replaced the head gasket, and then put it all back together. The cam timing was at 0.9mm and I changed it to 1.4mm per the spec book. Now I am getting a high rpm stutter around 4500.
The tach also bounces around quite a bit. I checked the battery and it is 12.5V. With the engine running it is up to ~13.8V. This is a little low, so could that be my problem? It seems pretty close so I am saving changing out the alt and VR as a last resort. I am almost there though. I didn't touch the ignition timing and the car ran awesome before I touched it. :( The ignition timing doesn't change with the cam timing, right? I didn't mess with the CIS. The engine is stock except early exhaust, early alt and VR. And like I said, it ran awesome before I 'fixed' it. Where should I start? My gut is telling me ignition. New cap and rotor. I am going to verify timing. Then maybe swap out VR's and alts? Help!! BK |
BK, post your settings of ignition timing. Your tach bouncing suggests a primary ignition problem. Check power and grounds to your CD box and the wire to your dizzy.
