SONOFA...! #$*&ING Mice!

A few days ago I found some shredded paper towels in my shop. Hmmm... better look in the 911 trunk, where I found a mouse nest before. And there was one, on top of the trunk carpet. Pulled that out to be cleaned up later, and set a few traps around the shop.

Today I find more shredded paper, so I look in the trunk again, and find this in the front corner under the spare:

They're decomposing in the woods now, and a trap is set in the trunk.

Question: does that green foam look like it's from within the car?

That happened to my MG during the year I had it parked at my office. The little bastiges ate a sparkplug wire, which I didn't discover until halfway home at night in middle of rare Idaho downpour. Great fun!

cheers,
Nathan

Keep an eye on you air filter. I have a 75 911 and found one making a nest there. I am trying one of those high frequency noise things. Not sure yet if it works. Spencer

Check for mice!

Be sure to check under the shroud, behind the alternator, around the cylinder heads, etc... for mice nests so you don't get on the road and overheat!

be sure to wear gloves and - better - a mask

wild mice can carry a number of very dangerous and untreatable diseases -- tuleremia, lyme disease, rabies and plague are just some of the better known ones. Not all can be transmitted as easily as others. But some can be transmitted by skin absorption or breathing in dust from the nest...

X2 on the carpet padding.
I have had to make several repairs (not mine) to the wires under the master cylinder. For some reason mice like that flavor.
I have 4 cats, one of which has a pass to the garage, no mice here.
Mothballs work well. Just don't put them in the car, chuck them under things in the shop.

After 15 years, my garage decided to adopt wood rats. I bought d-CON and those boogers would eat but would not die.

I was so upset that I almost called the manufacturer for a refund>

Then an idea kicked-in. I opened new 3 new boxes, coated the green D-Con pellets with peanut butter, laid them in corners of the garage, and waited one night. The following morning, the pellets were drastically consumed, some were all over the floors (obviously they were feasting), and 2 days later, my house was rat free.

Try it.!!!!!

first I think the foam is from your sound proofing above the engine, same thing happened to me and I discarded the entire insulation.
Second the high frequency noise maker to keep mice away work, they are not perfect but I catch fewer mice since they have been installed a year ago.
Third good ole fashioned mouse traps, I catch 1-2 week religiously, and I never get them in the car boat or tractor anymore?

Living in the woods, I have to live with all types of critters.
I use Peanut Butter and the green bait squares. I havent seen a mouse in the garage since. Friggen chipmunks chew the patio cushions...Bats in the umbrellas...but the Porsche is mouse free

And place the traps next to a wall. Mice like to run close to the walls for some reason.

I understand your desire to extract mice from your life. However, I suggest you try traps instead of poison. If mice consume the pellets, they will probably die in the woods and be consumed by their natural prey (owls, hawks, eagles, coyotes, etc. and scavengers). The poison will kill/affect the consumers and in-turn transfer up the food ladder, maybe somehow reaching our food supply. It's happening with fish and other aquatic animals we consume.

baby killer! hahahahahahaha LOL!

kill em all let the meezze god sort em out!

once i see even a turd we go into blitzkreig mode. traps w/peanut butter. stickem strips, take electric blower/vac to all areas garage and then poison. i have dogs so i am real smart about how much and where. i also have harris hawks on top of trees all around so acutely aware of food chain.

leaving hood closed and engine bonnet closed will asure you nest. pack rats make meeeezzze look tame as far as destuctive behavior.

laugh but very quick and simple cheap method is the old KATZ drill. get poo poo litter box and throw KATZ in garage for a week. dont feed him and your problem will be reduced. down side is cat box smell.

if you give them water and food source, they will come. remove both and problem reduced. pack rats looking for shade now that its 107 degrees and above. snakes looking for them. goes hand in hand. drawback is car getting nailed and me getting nailed by rattler at this hour of the morning stumbling around garage in the dark. and rattlesnakes DO NOT ALWAYS RATTLE!

ultimate trick is to find BULL SNAKE AND LET LOOSE in garage. natural enemy to rattlers and have voracious pack rat/meeze hunger. problem is they will sooner or later find way out of garage and split.

Thanks for that goose-bump moment.
Being deathly afraid of snakes..................any snake................any size, I had a bad flash.
I could see my son doing this to try and help control the snakes. ( I don't have them but) I would have a hard time explaining to the insurance company how all those shotgun blasts got in the walls.............celing................car....... .................floor.................

well rick i can understand your concern about snot gun blasts. used to be my .410 was next to my door. encroachment and the good old days are over. had rat one morning doing his rat thing, grabbed RWS model 52 .177 pellet rifle.............beaned his worthless A$$ and the next thing cops in my driveway.

handed over CCW, showed them pellet rifle and they were cool. no firearms lit off w/in city limits blah blah. pellet rifle /pistol considered deadly weapon. so back to other deadly methods of rodenten erradication as mentioned.

once packrats make nest kiss yer wiring goodbye. total mega buck PITA!

i use blower to eradicate any nests and food source. dog food kept in garbage can for javelina and rodent reasons.

they are everywhere here.

any bull snake we find we deposit on property since natural predator of rattlers. rattlers do serve purpose of rodenten control w/obvious downside. try to be GREEN, but poison white packets seem to work best. mommy/daddy meeeze take bites bring back to nest. babies die horrible violent death along w/parents. smell alerts you to nest. i will take smell over rewiring my freeking porsche.

stickem strips everywhere, traps big and small w/peanut butter and constant dark area eyeball checks is only answer.

dont use hose, that leaves water source, blower best. fuch up their lifestyle and they will leave for greener pastures like maybe yer neighbors.

im a baby killer also. just nailed parent rock squirrel, wounded him w/rws pistol(quieter than rifle), and back in hole, found him yesterday starting to bloat outside nest. flooded nest w/poison gas bomb(out building) and nailed babies! hahahahahaha

g/friends old toyota was parked at house w/hood closed. found packrat nest and ALL wiring shredded. donated to church. repairing wiring was more than car worth!

So my mouse story...

My '62 Roadster is a Garage Princess (she comes out for nice days). Never had a mouse problem and she usually occupies the upper spot on my lift. This winter, she was at ground level with my 911S up above (since I was trying to figure out why it wouldn't start). This spring, when I was prepping her for the season, I started her up with a big POW, puff of smoke and red shreds of yarn came out of the tailpipe. I panicked becaus the interior is red. As the Roadter idled, I looked throughout the cockpit but saw no evidence of mouse or mouse damage. Then I spotted my California Duster behind the passenger seat. It was in its black vinyl case. I pulled it out, and every bristle had been cut/bitten off! The material that came out of the exhaust was duster. There was no other evidence of mouse anywhere. I looked underneath (lift), under hood and trunk, aircleaners - not even 1 mouse dropping to be found. No smell of mouse once warm, nothing. I consider this dodging a bullet and will do everything I can in the future to prevent mice.

My 911 was not so lucky - it had been sitting for 2 1/2 years and had a mouse nest in the engine bay. Most of the time it was on up on the lift. No damage to any of the systems could be found but it had chewed holes in my carpet at the rear of the threshold on both the passenger and driver side. Gives me an excuse to replace it.

I've already set traps. And will use azasadny's suggestion for dryer sheets. I've scattered a few around under carpets in the 911 already. It is odd that the California Duster was so attractive as nest building material.

cheers,
Michael

Mouse control at it's best. This is Panzer, we named her that for the fact she thinks she is a tank. She has soft feet, and for some reason she loves my 911. I have to let her in the garage when I am working in there. She howls at the door until I let her in. She rubs the tires, rubs the bottom of the engine. M1 is really fun to wash out of a cat.
I have issued her a garage pass and I have no invaders there. Forget the snakes, poison, traps, dryier sheets, just get yourself a Panzer.
