Taj Covered Bridge Tour - Many Pics

I took a few pictures from this year's Taj Kreuzers Covered Bridge Road tour. We traveled throughout Preble County in Ohio to see seven covered bridges. We also stopped at a historical foundation and viewed a few antiques such as a model A Ford.

Great photos - I have one question ........

Why did they build covered bridges?, for rain protection of the surface?

Matt

Covered Bridge Tour

Looks like you guys had a lot of fun. I'm from Preble County and wished that I could have made it but, my rear calipers won't let go of their discs. Looks like a rebuild is needed. Thanks for posting the pictures. Did anyone else take pictures? Would like to see more.

Matt,
I believe you are correct. I think they needed to protect the wooden planks that went across the floor of the bridges.

Thanks again,
Chris

Chris,

Kind of neat to see someone from Lebanon on the board !! I grew up there, my parents still live there. I live a just bit south now though...

We like it here. Small town feel with all kinds of things to do not to mention being close to Dayton and Cincinnati. I'm from a really small town (not on the map) in Preble county by the Indiana state line and my wife went to Kings High School. We didn't make it on the covered bridge tour but we are hoping go to Porsches to Oxford. Isn't there a Porsche/VW reunion every summer around town?

Talk to you later.

Chris

They did a quick history lesson at the first bridge. They had roofs for a variety of reason...the most practical is to protect the bridge surface from the elements. Not so much for slippery when wet, but from rotting. Another reason was that a roof provided been structual support and I guess it wasn't that much harder to put a roof on it. Yet another was to keep "evil spirits" from it.

I took quite a few pictures, but posted the ones I thought were best. But here are some more. I would like to see some pictures that other people took. There were at least five others with cameras.
