Thermostat Oring + a paper Gasket
Hey Guys
I just drop down my 911 Engine for Oil leack fix's, a 3.0L 1982 by the way. Just looking at the Engine Thermostat after replacing the old O-ring ,it struck me . Why did the Engine designer didn't use a Gasket and the O-ring, something like the Intake manifold gaskests? Whith the proper Gasket Paper I can make one. Is there a problel if you make and Instal a gasket on the Thermostat? I performed a leack test on the Engine Oil Cooler and it check "A- ok". Replace the two small o rings on top and the lower larger O ring on the Oil Cooler . I'm still waiting for the new Oil pressure sensor and the new OXC Temp. sensor. I will install new Silicone Valve Cover Gaskets.Replace the Breather Gasket and have a new Breather hose coming in.I'm fixing all that can leack .In the mean time I have this intrige whith this gascket on the Thermostat. What do you think? Some imput will be appreciated Vic ![]()

I did the same thing on my car. "Made" a (thin) cork gasket and used it in addition to the o-ring.

Well tell me your experience . I noticed the following . The Thermostat is not a complete oval flange. it only relly on the Oring for seal. What is the thicknes of the cork Gasket that you use?
Take a look at this. Do you notice the opening in the flange ?. There is only contact in the two nuts. Cordially Vic
