Cam Timing 3.2 Can someone check my math please?

Good Morning. I am working on cam timing for my 3.2, and discovered that my dial indicator only reads .001" resolution. Specs are in mm. My math is as follows:

1.25mm*.03937= .0492125"

Does this seem correct? Overlap setting at .049"

Thanks!!!

That is the correct conversion.

Thanks Souk!!

No problem. Good luck with the rest of the work.

Your math is correct but your specs are wrong. Overlap at TDC is set with 0.1 mm valve clearance, not with 1.25 mm.

Cheers,
Joe

I hope I'm not wrong stlrj. I got the specs from Wayne's book as follows:

1984-1989 Carrera 1.1-1.4 (1.25)

The way I read is that 1.1-1.4 overlap is factory spec, 1.25 is ideal.

My math tells me this:

.043-.055 is spec
.049 is ideal.

Your numbers look correct for an SC.

You are right. The spec I quoted was for the initial valve clearance.

What you are talking about is the total lift at overlap or TDC and your numbers are correct.

Cheers,

Joe
