What is this?
 

I've been digging around under my dash, looking for excess, unused PO installed garbage that can be/needs to be removed. (Junk wiring, etc.)

Ran across this box under the center portion of the dash and have no idea what it is or does. It mounts up right under the radio. Surely one of you guys can fill me in?

I was thinking some sort of module for the alarm system I'd been slowly removing, but the way it was wired in gave me reason to believe that probably wasn't the case.

Okay, I've got a lot of the wiring sorted out. Replaced a lot of twisted crimps that were just wrapped with electrical tape with actual crimps. Still quite a bit of work to do under there, but at least I won't be catshing my feet on the wiring anymore. :mad:

Anyway, in my efforts to clean it up under there, I ran across several things for me to ask questions about. Mainly, a whole series of "What are these wires for?"

Here's the first round:

This part of the wire harness is located in the passenger side footwell. You can see just above my thumb a bunch of clipped wires. There are 6 of them in total, in this part of the bundle. They are brown with a red stripe. Any idea what the brown/red wires go to?

Also located in the passenger side footwell, these wires drop down from the dash. The two short-clipped wires are the same brown/red as the 6 wires in the pic above. Of the three remiaing wires, two of them are solid brown (ground wires) and the last is solid red. This part of the harness runs up through a grommet, into the front trunk, under the heater ducting. Any ideas?

Once more from the passenger side, there is this plug that I can't seem to find the socket for. I'm wide open to suggestions for where this guy goes.

This group of wires resides in the passenger side door. I've accessed them by pulling them through the speaker opening. I suspect they belong to the power side mirrors that are no longer installed?

These four wires hang down in the driver side footwell. Following them, they lead up through a hole into the front trunk, underneath the Master Brake Cylinder.

Given the fact that a lot of this stuff may have been wired, or re-wired, by a PO, I realize that just seeing the colors of the wires may not be enough. In fact, here's a shot of the passenger side power-window switch and the "wonderful" work he did wiring it...

Looking at the back of the switch, it looks like the spade broke off so the PO filled it with solder, connected this wire and then twisted it into the existing wire. It works, but jeeze!!! :rolleyes:

Sorry I can't be of help, but I just had to post - that's the first time I've ever seen someone do that to a switch (and I've broken countless switches with spades connectors!!!) WOW, and I thought I was frugal...:rolleyes:
