Mid Rise lift + ramps... My turn
Since I practically gave away my old lift because it did not fit the 911s so well (lifting pads, oil lines, bad mix) I had been lift-less and that was really no fun... I decided to spend the money - $1515 delivered + $200 in wood and hardware - in order to save some $$$ with DIY work.. I got the the Bend Pak MD6XP, it is portable if you are a bulgarian weight lifter, but this model has moveable arms - better for the 911's oil lines !
My thanks to Souk for his pictures that inspired my ramps ! Oh who am I kidding, I totally copied, except I did not cut the planks at an angle... 12x 10ft pieces, staggered to make 12 feet long bits 4 planks high, bolted and screwed with some braces on both ends, and a chain tying the lift to the brace in front to prevent runaway ramps (might be overkill)... Great thread that saved me the engineering ! PS: I hope you can "forgive" the cool old Bimmer on this side of the forum, it's the one the pictures were taken with. I know it looks like the tires are 50% off the ramps but in truth they only are 20% off on each side if I drive straight on ;-) And 25% off, but the other way, for the 996 with its mongo 285s... The 911 is however perfect on them ! It's a compromise ;-) ![]() ![]() |

Another ramp design
I also built a ramp, but wanted something lightweight and movable. I built mine out of 2 x 6" with a 3/8" plywood cover. I put rope handles on the sides so I can carry it around, put them under wife's Jeep for storage. Great for oil changes and minor adjustments below.

Very nice job ! But way too much engineering for me, considering we have a 6 weeks old baby and I had only the time between 2 feedings to pull this off ;-)

Nice handy ramps Dentist!
For my BendPak, I screwed a couple 2x10s together and simply bent a couple 1/4 plates up to use as lead on ramps. I typically park a car on them nightly and they never "squirt" out. I have very narrow cars (924's) and very wide cars (Audi) and having a fixed width would have required very wide width ramps. I just simply kick them in or out a bit when I switch cars. It is nice to be able to move the ramps away on some jobs so one can roll all around the car on a stool. I originally planned to make something more substantial like Souk's nice ramps, but what I use is really all that is required and has the above mentioned advantages. A quick sketch ![]()
