What are these wires for?

I am working on my 70 911E, just got it delivered after 2 years with a mechanic and after sitting in a barn for 12 years. Long story.

It does run although it leaks a lot of oil (current project). I noticed a number of wires that were not connected. I think the pictures show them. It looks like on of the red/gray wires should go to the MFI micro swith and that the red/whit wires should be connected. The other red/gray and the gray wire have me stumped.

David,

Both of the wires on the right -- taped in a bundle with right-angle, Flag-style Fastons -- should be on the microswitch. Can't tell for sure, but one of the Faston tabs on the microswitch may be broken off or missing.

And, yes, the Red/White wires should be attached. They are for your rear window defogger heating grid.

Only one mystery remains, and it has the blue aftermarket connector on it! Is that the gray wire you referred to? The only Gray wire I am familiar with in the vicinity is for the backup lights.

If you don't have a good color schematic diagram for your car ... you can download an excellent one here:

Warren, you wouldn't, by chance, happen to have a link to a schematic for an 86 Targa, would you?

Randy
