air condition fan(s)

Hi there

I recently bought a 1977 911s and imported it from Arizona to Israel. The car has stock American Ac, i replaced the huge York compressor with a compact modern one which saves valubale space and is less heavy on the engine.

I also found 2 small but very powerfull Spall fans (off a modern Merc) but the problem is, i cant find any to put them on...

I realy cant understand how those Ac units worked in the first place. without fans the preasure rises and you cant put enough gas to have decent cooling. This is realy strange for me.

The option are getting the engine lid grill higher to acomedate the fans which will be realy ugly. The other option is to make a change to the air intake system to live more space in the upper engine compartment wich looks realy complecated. the third option i can think of is to change the location of the Ac radiator to the front which will result in making special new pipes.

There must be a impler soution! isnt it?...

also one other thing: the way things are organized it seems that when driving in winter rain will come down directly from the engine grill stright onto the distributer...what can you do? is it only a summer car?!...

Thanks for any reply, i appriciate it.

Eitan

The deck lid condenser is cooled by air drawn in through deck lid grill by the main engine cooling fan. With some stock configurations (single decklid condenser) one has to have the engine running at 2500 to 3000 RPM and be moving at 30 MPH (50 KPH) or greater to obtain sufficient airflow and condensing action for the A/C to work.

It is difficult to fit very large fans under the deck lid with the stock 1977 CIS fuel injection arrangement.

One can buy kits that will allow the installation of additional fan cooled condensers in the left rear wheel well. This will work well in your car since you do not have a catalytic converter.

The car was designed in Germany where it rains all the time; if properly installed and maintained the ignition system (including the distributor) isn't affected by water (rain or melted snow) coming through the decklid grill.
