Oil Change and now change?

I did my own oil change a week ago, while I was changing the oil and filling it up I could hear a harmonic sound. It went away when I put another quart of oil. Talked to my mechanic about after I went to see him to check the exhaust emissions where in check. He didn't know what it could be.

Well yesterday after leaving work I heard it again. And today again....it seems to happen only on start up and then goes away on warm up...its like a metalic, harmonic sound ...everything on the car feels fine, druck is normal and no back fires...

20/50 weight on the oil due the Az heat

I noticed a sound from my oil tank last year, but I wouldn't describe it as metallic. When I switched to 15w40 I would hear a 'burbling' sound when i first started it up. I believe what I was hearing was oil that had settled into the crankcase being pumped up into the tank. It would go away after about 30 secs or so. I don't notice it so much with the 20w50 oil, but the mornings are still pretty cold up here.

I have never heard a Porsche engine sound like that Just kidding. What I wanted to saty is the sound quality of your video is simply not able to reproduce the engine sound for any remote diagnosis. Other than telling that it runs..... If you are really concerned I would take it to an experienced shop/mechanic to listen to it. Don't take chances. Did you change to a different oil weight or type?

Weired sounds can come from a lot of different things. Poor valve adjustment on one or more valves, oil starvation in the valve train, a bad bearing, rod knock, piston slap, etc.

Good luck,
Ingo

To me, it sounds more like a whine from the alternator.
Usually mine would make the same sound on start up, but go away a few minutes after the engine warmed up... I actually just replaced my alternator 200 miles ago, and no more weird noise! My alternator was actually starting to show signs of failure after 22 years, and 158k miles... I didn't want to wait until complete failure left me stranded somewhere, so I replaced it... Just for clarification, my alternator has made that funny bearing noise for the last 5 years until warmed up...

Ok got rid of one vid, you guys can't hear a weird sound at 6 to 10 seconds? It seems to come from the left side...someone suggested it was the alt pulley? My alternator was replaced when my old engine alt light was going out...

I know the sound of a piston letting go, which sucks but it does not sound like that...it comes around start up and goes away after warm up...

Sounds like alternator to me also....Try turning your lights, heater, a/c fresh air blower on all at the same time and see if the noise increases.

oh ya that's the alternator, mine is making the same noise. If you really want to be sure, pull the belt and fire it up for a few seconds. But I hear the sound and it sounds identical to mine (which I have not gotten around to pulling yet).
