71E - Convert back to Sporto?

I am considering converting my 71E back to a sporto. Should I go through the trouble?

I have found most of the parts from a T. Are there some parts specifically for an E? For example, it's my understanding the oil pump is driven off the drivers side cam, which also drives the MFI pump. Does the E have a different thingy on the end of the cam?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
BK

I'm not aware any part of the engine drives the gearbox pump (except for the crankshaft). I could be mistaken. Unless there's intrinsic value of an unmolested 911E with Sportomatic, I'd replaced it with a 901 or 915. Do you have hydropneumatic front suspension as well?

Off the top of my head, you'll need:
Gearbox and mount
Flywheel and clutch assembly
Shift assembly, shift coupler and shift tube
Pedal assy and clutch linkage/cable

Those who have done the conversion can provide details.

Thanks Sherwood. No real reason for switching back. I have a 915 in my 73 and a 901 in my 914, so I was just going for something different. Plus the older these cars get originality really helps. The PO swapped in a 901 and I may just leave it in since sporto parts are getting pretty hard to find. Several people have mentioned a gear on the back of the cam. Maybe I was thinking of something else.

No hydro-pneumatic struts. Not sure if it was converted or not. I bought the car from the original owner and he didn't mention converting, so maybe it is original.

"Several people have mentioned a gear on the back of the cam."

The driver's side cam has a gear to drive the MFI pump. That's probably what you were thinking of.

Whoops. Sorry I misread your initial post. You want to switch back to Sportomatic.
