Alfa brake pads in my Carerra?

Howdy!

I ordered Mintex "red box" brake pads from our gracious hosts for my 84 Carerra -- the ones with the notch for the brake sensor. They arrived from Pelican today, and the box containing the front brake pads was exactly as expected -- Mintex part no. MDB 1455, box lists "Posrche 911 83-" as the application. However, the box for the rear pads has the Mintex part no. MDB 2167 and lists its application as "Alfa Romeo 6 2.5 79-86" and BMW 6 and 7 series from 76-82 -- no mention of Porsche.

I checked on the Mintex web site and they say this part no. is exactly that application -- Alfas. I looked further and they have a very different part no. marked for the pads they sell for the rear of an 84 911.

I called Pelican, let them know my suspicion that they accidentally sent me the wrong part (with all of the details of the part numbers), and the (very nice) customer service person took my number and let me know she was going to check back with the warehouse guys to see what was up. She called back a couple of hours later, and tells me that according to her people these were the correct pads and they should fit just fine.

I'm honestly not convinced. For one thing, the box (I've not opened either) for the rear pads is noticably lighter than the one for the fronts, but mainly -- well, it just doesn't sound right.

Has anybody else ordered the Mintex pads from Pelican for an 84 911 rear brakes, gotten pads labeled for an Alfa, fitted them, and it been ok?

I think you should open the box and have a look at the pad. Compare it to a rear pad in the caliper and see whats up. You checked once and got confirmation the pad is correct. If you open the box and find a mismatch, then call back and tell them what you found.
I am sure the compound is the same from the same manufacturer in the same heat ranges. If the shape is different, get correct ones sent to you.
