PMOs now or later?

My income tax refund is burning a hole in my pocket.

I have a stock small port ’80 3.0 with about 3k miles on a complete rebuild. I am considering putting some PMOs on it. Within the next year or so I am planning to open the ports up, put in some mod S cams, and some higher compression pistons. I may even go with the SS 3.2 pistons.

I was hoping to spread the $’s out a little, but should I wait and do the whole thing at once? Or will it be pretty easy to get the manifolds ported, new jets and venturis later?

The engine is in a gutted out ’73 coupe and mainly used for DE’s and AX’s.

Thanks!
BK

You should sell the 3.0 to me, and install that 3.2 in the '73
My car is still leaking, and I am about to back it over a large rock!

I would start shopping, and take your time. You will always get a better deal buying from a want to sell, as opposed to posting a WTB.

Collect all the parts, and build it after you have everything.

I've been forcing myself not to put the 3.2 on the stand. A 3.4 sounds like it would be a lot of fun!!

it would be much cheaper, more HP, more reliable and less fussy to simply go with a 3.6. Just my opinion...

The nice thing about upgrading your engine is you can do it in stages. Yes, overall, the best bang is a 3.6, but with an upgrade you can spread the overall cost over several years, plus the rebuild is a great challenging project.

Regarding PMOs, I am currently on order for set of 46's and the wait is quite long, I was told about 2 months.

On the stock 80 3.0, you would probably want 40s. But when you go to higher comp pistons and wilder cams, you'll want 46s. You would also need to swap the jets when you started making changes. I would wait and do it all at once.

For me I decided to go with PMOs, with the aid of Steve Weiner. Talking with Steve he pointed out my DC20 cams with wedge-dome pistons would really limit my engine's potential. Thus the upgrade to DC40 cams and 10.5:1 mahle pistons.

If you are looking for help with PMOs I highly recommend Steve.
