Where To find H4 Headlight Hardware(Screws)

Does anyone know where I can find the screws that go on the rings?

Adjustment or mounting? Be clear. Mounting form Pelican. Adjustment is trickier by far, you'll likely end up making them. I can help you find some threads on this, or you can search the Early S Registry where I know the information exists.

Sorry, the two that adjust the lights.

On a slightly different note, anybody know where to get a larger, coarser threaded mounting screw for the H4 install? I wasted about four hours trying to install mine before just forcing the screws in, cross-threaded or not, fighting that useless, ill-placed recessed flathead all the way. Skull-hammering douche-baggery. Amazingly, I scratched no paint.
What's with all the fine-threaded machine screws on these cars? What I need is a SS 1/4-20 with a hex drive and a cone head that fits the ring - I'll drill and tap the mounting tab to match.
The really sad statement of this engineering debacle was when I helped my sister replace the headlights on her Geo Prizm and it took all of ten minutes, due to the superior mounting fasteners of the cheapo import design. I love Porsches. No, really. I do.

Just ordered a complete screww set from Pelican....some of these screwws are on back order from Germany but will come in eventually...

I'm not up for heading to the hardware store to "find something"..

.don't really care what it costs.....just send me the original $#^(*(&*^(*..

Best,

Whatever isn't available from Pelican, you can probably source from Daniel Stern Lighting. He is highly recommended.

Joe,
Happy to see that you got that off your chest. Nice little rant, there. :)
I think that if the install looks right then it may as well remain as is. It's good you didn't #^$@ up the paint. Just please don't change your mind now and go backdating to original. ;)
And I'm sure your '85 loves you, too. :D

BMAN, what people have done is to locate the longest screw you can find in that small (4mm?) size and buy enough to weld some of the threaded part into the screw that goes thru the ring. You can braze brass and have it plated or buy SS and weld with SS wire. you need some little clamps, too. I forget what they're called (probably never knew ;)), but they hold the screw to the ring so it will hold the adjustment. There are actually 3 parts there: The clamp, a cup and a rubber bushing. You can use brass nut of the same thread and deform or so it won't turn once you have it snugged up where you want it. The cup and bushing are relatively easy to figure out from the unique parts bins at the better hardware stores. It's all a PITA; I've seen this movie.

Well, I do feel a little better, having dressed-down the AG Ing. Porsche headlight-mounting afterbirth design hardware. What's so horrible with simplicity? I realize these cars are special, but is it necessary to further torture an already over-the-edge owner with a basic point of attachment that just does not work?

I fondly remember my $200 70 GMC pickup and its cavernous engine compartment that made any repair so easy, where every fastener was unobstructed and 9/16".
Replacing the $28 water pump was a matter of two or three bolts and you could do it fast enough that almost no coolant leaked out.

So you might understand how I'm chagrined that my $200 Euro headlight assemblies fit into my $38,650 stickered Uber German RoadPanzer with all the precision of a large square peg hammered into a small round hole.

I'd just leave it and forget the whole regrettable episode ever happened, but no, some force is driving me to f**k with it yet AGAIN when I paint the trim rings to bring my ride one step closer to that unobtanium perfection we all strive for.
