Testing a coil

What is the procedure for testing a coil? I have no spark out of the top of the coil. I have 12 volts to the primary side.

Do a search. Look for a thread by early_s_man. Use his handle and the word coil for the search term. He posted in a thread (http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/299530-bad-coil.html?highlight=coil) that details exactly what you need. His other threads have much more info to help you figure out what to do.

What car and engine vintage, and does it have CDI or battery-coil ignition? You don't connect +12 Volts to a CDI coil, EVER!

Here is a thread worth reading in detail and saving on your PC ...
