suspension upgrade time
Hello,
I drive an 85 3.2, and feel like the car has way too much body roll for me. Mentioning torsion bars only, what would be the best setup for a mostly street car? I need to re-index my rears so i fig while they were out i might as well upgrade. Keeping in mind i would like to leave the fronts alone. would i benifit from only changing the rears? Also any other suspension recommendations are appreciated! Thanks for all your help, Andrew |

I would try upgrading the sway bars first to see if it fixes the body roll problem. Go with 86-89 Carrera bars front and rear. It's a straight bolt up.

check out: http://www.elephantracing.com/ and http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/911_torsion_bars/911_torsion_bars.htm
Thats only 2 out of a whole bunch of stuff you can find using the search function. I am in the process of going through my 22 yr old original suspension. Should have done this over the winter, but then I couldnt of had all the fun on my sled. Hope to get my car back on the road this fall.

You don't mention mileage or if anything has even been replaced or your wheel and tire sizes/type/make. You could simply add some 86-89 sway bars, new bushings, new factory spec shocks, check your tire pressure, etc.

Andrew:
You can spend mucho bucks and not up much better off than you are now. I would suggest you do what i did... contact a good raceshop that specializes in Porsche race cars and discuss what you want. THey have tried most of the combinations already and know what works and where. You may be surprised at the answers. I know I did that here and I have a great ride with less modification than I anticipated. Depending on you use of the car, you may not need to do much more than make sure your rear rubber springplate bushes are ok, you have some sway bars (stock size perhaps) and the sway bar bushes are ok, and your strut inserts and shocks are fresh. Lower/Align/Corner Balance and you will be good to go.

hey thanks guys!
I am running cup I wheels (17'') with 3/8 spacers in the rear. 245's on the rear and 225's on the front. all tires sit flush with the fenders. I have 200k on the chassis. We own a lazer alightment machine so any alignment modifications are easy for me. Also my friend has a set of corner balancers. My ride hight I will snap a picture of tomorrow, I will measure it for you guys. thanks again for all the advice, I will return tomorrow with more pics and details. Andrew |
