RS/RSR or C2/4 update...

I have the opportunity to do either to my totally straight 911sc, which I call Betsy...we can go the RSR bumper route (thanks to a pelican member) or the C2 route via several suppliers. I love the car but hate...HATE those damn front bellows, rear bumper "implant DDs" and the overwhelming black rumbber all over the girl...I loved it when I was 12 and fell for her but now that I have her, it just looks like every other older 911...not a bad thing to some, but I want to refresh the relationship without ditching her for a newer model.

My concern is that by going the 964 route, it'll look like an older car trying to look new...even though the car has new paint and the front and rear pieces will be painted as well....

or, I can go the rs/rsr route and get her looking serious and a little more aggressive...

if I go the rs/rsr route, do I keep the fuch 16" fuch wheels? They are totally straight and like new...

and where does one get interior bits to customize the inside..besides the given door panels...seats? seat belts? dash recovering?

and...and...will a RS/RSR front/rear look okay with any kid of side skirt? I know it's not traditional, but the front dam seems so wide that side skirts seem like they'd have been logical...if not a welcome ide nowadays...comments?

Thanks for all you guys help....invaluable...and in truth, what will decide the route I take...

I dont believe that people will think your trying to make your car look new if you update it to a 964. Keep in mind most 964's are now over 15 years old, and still retain the traditional 911 look. Put a 964 next to a 997 or even a Cayman and youll see how old they look. That being said, I choose the 964 look because of the smooth bumpers. (and the RSR 964's are VERY cool) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1181626260.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1181626286.jpg

What year was your original car, Rodsrsr? That is beautiful. I personally like the 964 front...cleaner, a tad modern without all the trim crap, but I like the rear to have a parting shot of attitude, such as yours...may I ask where you bought from? What other mods have you done? Would love to see more, inside and out.

Your 81 widebody is the perfect candidate for the IROC treatment...

What size are your 16" Fuchs? To fill the rear flares on a widebody you must have some wide ones....

Thanks for the compliment. Its a 76 with a supercharged 3.2. Im from So Cal and thats where I got the tub. In regards to your situation, the Fuchs wont look right on the C2, so you may want to factor in the cost of some 17" wheels. It is a tough call, because the old Rs/RSR's look so good too. Choices, choiceshttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1181666764.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1181666794.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1181666815.jpg

Guys,

That's another thing, I have been told it is a widebody but it isn't quite as wide as a factory 930 turbo...but it has original steel flares that are certainly wider than most (except up fron where they are standard...the car came with little paperwork...just a sales receipt from a auto delaership in Beverly Hills and several work orders for the expected (chain tensioner upgrade, new clutch, tranny work etc.)

I will have to look at the wheel but I wanna say they are 45s?

I really like the racer look of the RSR but like the cleaner, less obtrusive 964 feel...options, options...

You should post a picture of your car up. Widebody and standard bumpers aren't interchangeable and you don't want to buy the wrong parts..

germaniac 06-12-2007 10:21 AM

Rodsrs,

Is that a genuine 964 console Did it fit easily??

911teo 06-12-2007 10:37 AM

As Cory says if you have a custom made widebody it will be difficult to find a bumper that fits, no matter what style you decide to go with.

germaniac 06-12-2007 10:51 AM

how do I attach a pic...I'd like to find out whether betsy's got a big butt or not. I have a pic of her before paint...now, to get it posted.../Users/rludwick/Desktop/911 to email p2.jpg

Rodsrsr 06-12-2007 11:22 AM

Yes its a real 964 console. You have to do a little fabricating to make it fit. It needs to be raised up a few inches to make it work.

RUF bumbers clean things up real nice...

911sc update/ruf

Yeah, the problem is finding a front/rear kit at a good price...they are all over the place...from $850 to well over $1,200...not including shipping.

Anyone know of a good alternative to the beautiful ruf wheel on the Yellowbird?

Scott Clarke 06-14-2007 11:18 AM

I'm with Matteo- do something period correct with your car. The IROC setup looks great, and would mesh well with your seats, wheels, and likely many other components also.

germaniac 06-14-2007 11:28 AM

My bad...my car actually isn't a widebody (just bought it and I was told by the gentleman it was a turbo body...though it didn't appear quite that wide to me...anyway, with the turbo tea tray and all, who knew! I certainly just learned that (lol)

so I can use standard kits and I am talking with a user about an RSR kit at a great price...do that over a c2 upgrade?

911teo 06-14-2007 11:34 AM

Any real RSR kits will not fit your car. The RSR bumpers are made for 9" front flares and 11" rear flares.

To have an idea check out

www.gt-racing.com

It will show you all the possible options you can have for a narrow body car.

Check this car as an exaple of an SC (narrow body) with IROC bumpers

Also if you like RUF style bumpers (I think they are the nicest on the narrow body cars) you can get a replica set for a lot less $$$

You guys have been a real big help; still don't know what to do...if it wasn't for alimony, I'd have a few of every Porsche I want (looking for choice 993 for a daily driver...though the old SC proves up to the task...but a challenge in traffic!)

Hope to converse more on additional topics and value the wisdom from them!

To the thrill of the road,

Rob
