oil level gauge switch??

after years of watching my oil level gauge bounce around like an idiot I had a thought. my gauge works fine at idle but clicks and bounces while driving.
why not install a momentary push button switch so that the gauge only reads when you're holding the button down.
I don't really depend on the gauge at all, at least I could get a reading if I felt a need without all the antics of the gauge while driving.
any thoughts? has this been done? couldn't find anything on a search of pp. Don.

call me wacky, but why not fix the problem? If the sender is fine and the wires aren't shorting, then the gauge must be shot. Sounds like driving around is making something short and giving you the bouncing needle.

I've talked to other owners and it seems a common problem, when driving around the turbulence/sloshing of the oil causes the gauge to read erratically. does anyone else have this problem?

Yup, the guage should bounce all over the place while driving - it's only accurate at idle on a level surface.
