Decklids, Grills and Years

I want to get a grill for my decklid but I don't know for sure what year the decklid is. Is there a certain set of years where the grills only fit certain lids? Can someone post a pic of the various grills used for each year group?

I want to put a WTB in the classifieds, but I don't know which one will fit.

Thanks in advance,

JA

Your best bet is to purchase the book by Dr. B. Johnson on restoring early 911's and 912's. There's a whole section on deck lids and grills.

Well, yes, the chassis is indeed a '70E, and the motor is a '73 2.4S converted to 2.7RS. Given that the chassis is a '70, I still don't know what year the decklid is from. The car is modified in a lot of places, so I wasn't sure what lid I have and what grill I need to get.

How about pictures? That would help.

A '70 would have a silver grill. '73 was flat black. Your best bet is posting your question with pictures on the Early 911S Registry site. Those guys will know.

Decklids from 69-73 are the same so you should have no problem finding the proper grille to fit, assuming the decklid you have falls within those years. A photo would help determine it. Post 73 lids do not have the license plate light cut-outs in them, but they will also fit your car.
