thinking of switching to a 993

Depreciation on a low miles 993?
I own an SC and am thinkng of going "BIG" and selling the SC to buy a low miles 993.

I want a car that is more family friendly (air that works, more comfortable ride and day to day reliability) and also has the looks, power and handling in stock form to make me laugh out loud!

My current thinking is that in the long run it (almost) makes sense in financial terms. Although it will suck up $40,000, that value will still be there in 5-8 years with only a mild level of depreciation.

Am I preaching to the converted?

I think you could do the same thing with the 964 and spend less money doing it. As the old addage goes - buy the newest you can afford. Of course, condition comes into play too...

Makes sense to me too. If I could do it financially (and geographically - no space to park them!) I'd have a 964 or 993 to drive during the week, and keep my Carrera for fun drives, etc.

Good luck!

I dont think a 40k 993 used as a semi family everyday driver will be worth anywhere near 40k in 5 years.

The 993 is a nice car. Family friendly? Are you seating small kids in the back? It's like your SC. The interior may be a bit more quiet, and like you said, the A/C works better.

I wouldn't think too hard about the economics of the 993 over time. It's like any other Porsche, some depreciation, maybe a bit less since it's the last of the air cooled 911s. The maintenance costs will bite you from time to time, as you'll probably have the SAI/CEL issue to contend with, and perhaps the dual mass flywheel will go south like it did on my old 993.

Buy one if you lust for one, if it fits your transportation needs, and you can afford one. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
