The 50k dollar question..

Yes this is the 50k dollar 81 SC coupe I would not hold my breath waiting to get that price. Or perhaps you prefer the 50k dollar 79 SC Targa.

isn't that the one that they've been trying to sell for a few years now? the ad used to say "kevlar head studs" or something like that.

Richard is well known for having rare cars that command a significant premium. Nothing wrong with that in the slightest. A collector seeking to acquire one in that condition and mileage would have no trouble meeting that price if they really wanted it.

Popoff valve? The car has 4,000 miles, do you think it gets DRIVEN?

Think about it like this: every time somebody with an SC modifies it to "upgrade it" those cars become more and more valuable. With the price of an SC below 10K those cars will get the same treatment that the SWB cars got in the Big 80's, fuelling the demand for originality further.

I am happy that he is offering those cars for 50k. I don't feel so bad about owning mine for half that much.

I would think this one at 25k is a much better buy.

I've always wondered what Sloan's cars actually sell for. Yes, he gets the cream of the crop and asks the moon but, how much is he willing to negotiate? I once talked to him about a 72 914; I was looking for a -6, he had a -4 and we talked quite a bit until we realized we wer talking about two different cars. I never got the chance to find out what he would do on the price.

Anybody buy a car from him, or know someone that did?

JR

I watched him trying to sell a car at Hershey a few years ago and decided he was not the kind of guy I wanted to do business with. That being said if he had exactly what I was screaming to own I would surely be foolish if I didn’t inquire about the car no matter who was the seller.

As evidenced by my starting this tread I think those prices are a joke and I found that with most of the prices he lists. I also got a chuckle that all the cars only seem to have “summer miles” on them, but hey he’s in the business of selling cars.

I think John's point is well-taken; there's probably some Seinfeldish buyer out there who's just gotta have the lowest mileage 911 that exists, hang the cost. But the fact that these cars have basically languished in a garage somewhere for almost 30 years makes them less than driveable, probably. So then does one go through them, replace all the aged seals, gaskets, hoses and actually drive them, or put them back in mothballs for another 30? They're not exactly Bugattis, you know - just plain-jane 911s. And with absurdly low-mileage cars like these, one should rightfully be concerned about odometer fraud - who's to say the original owner didn't disable the speedo for 15, 20 years?

I am committing some of his sales pitch to memory, should the market get really high for 911s with only 60K on the clock. Hey, they're good for 300K, right? Totally fresh.

the PO of my car purchased my car from him in 2000 for $20K. well, the original ad in the paper I still have says $20K. The PO had it 7 years and put about 9K or less miles on it and sold it to me for 14K after doing a new clutch and synchros. I cant imagine my car being worth 20K just 7 years ago. unless the door dings the PO added to my car, decreased the value by $6K. If it had the dings then, certainly it wasnt worth 20K. it had 87K miles on it when Sloan sold it!!

I don't understand the grumbling about the prices being asked for these cars. These are rare because of their condition and low mileage. So rare that they are extreme outliers in terms of the market. A car, any car, is only low mileage once.

Are these two 911 worth the price? The seller and eventual buyer must think so.

By the way, these kinds of discussions should be moved to the marketplace forum.

Brian
