New Memebr -Need advice on SC ?

Hello , I'm new to this forum and to 911 .I have purchased a 83 sc with a 63k miles in super nice mechanical condition -1 owner m but the car has been rolled over so I got a good 83 sc body shell and in a process of transferring all parts from rolled over to a good body shell .Please advice me -once I remove angine , trany , all lines , wiring , tanks -everything what should I replace while engine -trany out ?With only 63k original and 1 owner -super nice inside -and clean -with a new aftermarket muffler -should I change clutch ? engine /trany mounts ? any bearings or seals ?
Also please advice on the timming chain tensioners issue -the prduction date is 02/83 -so I'm not sure if car update with a newer tensioners -is there a way to determine what kind of tensioners I have -do I have to open timming covers ?
Please advice a new member .
thanks you very much

Thumbs up New SC

Get Wayne's 101 project book. Change all oil seals and O-rings you can get to with the engine out. I like the Wevo motor and tranny mounts. Change the clutch now when it is easy unless you know it is fairly new. If the cam chain tensioners have the Carrera update there will be small brass tubes attached to each timing chain cover with a banjo fitting.

Good luck and I recommend a 2nd job to pay for all the upgrades and restoration that you will do eventually.

Welcome Alex!

If you have the shell and are thinking of going places like the race track it would be a great time to put a welded roll cage in. also a good time to scrap the sunroof for a non sunroof... hell, just build a race car from scratch! Nice time to do wide body stuff Upgrade the brake booster to a later carrera version along with the brakes (bolt on with Carreras) Weld in some jack stand mounts like the carrera has, but better so its easy to work/lift the car and not squish the seam/oil lines/fuel lines/or anyhting else that is usually in the way

I'd certainly want the engine and tranny looked over very carefully. they were not designed to go belly up. did the car end up on the wheels or not? Fluids and gravity if mixed can end up anywhere.

Also, I'd inspect for cracks at the engine tranny mate or the bell housing. Additionally where ever the engine/ transmission mounting bars connect to the cases I'd inspect the holes for cracks. when rolling over I suspect there was a lot of torsional forces on the shell and I'd want to know if the engine/tranny combo was tweaked at all. Engine/tranny mounts should protect the drive train, but you never know.

What to do to it from scratch:
* Standard tune (valve adjust, plugs, etc...)
* Change the weeping seals (breather cover, t-stat ring, etc...)
* Inspect clutch and replace if it still has the rubber one
* Check the oil lines (pinches, dents), oil radiator, and oil cooler for cracks since these are on the outside of the car and prone to damage.
* I can only assume that the wiper storage bottle is done... for that matter, any plastic part coming off the car may have been cracked

thats a good start

Pics of the dead and new shell??

Best regards,

Michael
