Another heater blower question...
 

It's 90 degrees and high humidity today, so naturally I'm thinking about my car's heat... :p

Anywho...This is kind of a nubie question so apologies to the hardcore here...I've been researching / reading about my heater blower and thinking of removing it. But looking at it today, I don't even think it works. Is the fan audibly loud? Should I hear it with the motor running? Would it run with the motor off but the key in "run" position? My understanding is the heater levers on the floor, when pulled up, open the heater flappers but also trigger the blower motor electonically to run...is this correct? I hear nothing from the motor. I haven't looked closely enough to see if the mechanism is connected like it should, but I can "hear" what sounds like the flapper boxes and/or some kind of "click" when I pull the heater levers up...so something is connected.

Incidently, I'm considering removing this unit as part of backdating the heat, not so much just because I don't think it works. That CAT (or whatever it is) produces a lot of heat and, after a long drive, I can really feel the left side of the car is warmer than the right. I'm assuming that SSIs would be cooler than my current (stock factory original) setup?

Any comments would be appreciated. (..well, unless you're going to call me a big dummy..)

You are correct that the heater blower goes on when you pull up the levers. I removed mine and backdated the heater (and removed AC). I have SSIs also, and there is still a lot of heat emanating from the left rear fender.

Thanks John, I think I've seen a few pics of your engine bay.

Interesting about the heat on the left side, I don't remember it on any of my other 911s, is this something common to SCs? ..or maybe I just don't remember..

For the record, my motor does not appear to be overheating at all. My oil temps stay right around the middle or lower and pressures and levels are good. It's just the touch of the fender after getting out of the car.

It's funny but I don't think I spend much time by the right rear fender.
I'm always getting in and out on the left side. as I guess most of us are. :-)

:) I had to walk around to see where the smoke was coming from. :eek: Just some oil on the heat exchangers... :p But the fender was cooler than the driver's side.
