Olive Green I would say (if it's an original colour)

Green
Thanks, That's what the ad said but I've seen other olive greens that looked more brownish.
I love green on Porsches. For some reason I think it fits them really well. The Olive/tan combination in the 2nd pic is just perfect especially on a spoilerless SC or earlier. Tom Clancy thought so too...
Patriot Games.
Olive Green is definitely more of a brown-green. The color above might be Conifer Green, or one of the several other green shades.
I'll take a guess ....Leaf Green
but not Olive, this is Olive. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1182302468.jpg |
maybe Forest green...
Just a guess...but try "Leaf Green", an earlier color...may have been special ordered? I dunno if it was a standard or optional SC color...
are you sure that pic is olive (I'm sure it's your car, but maybe the pic looks off)? You can currently order new porsches in olive... it looks very different.

Here are a couple more Olive 911's: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1182306287.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1182306303.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1182306316.jpg I don't think it's Leaf Green either, as it looks to be darker. Here's Leaf Green: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1182306752.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1182306775.jpg It might also be an older green called Gelbgrun (Golden Green) SmileWavy |
I think it browner and darker than leaf green...
Do you know what light the pic was shot in? Early or late sunlight is reddish and can make the green more olive or browner. |
That would be Olive Green for 1979.
No matter what it΄s called, it is really nice to see some true colors on a car instead of the current hype of silver, gray, silver, silver....
You mean Arctic Silver and Seal Gray aren't to your liking, livi? Other than those two colors (along with Speed Yellow), does Porsche make cars in any other colors today?
Seems to me there is a kind of contradiction painting a true sports car in a discrete color. Model diversion aspiring to reach the broader masses instead of just us 'passionists' probably dictates a more politically correct paint scheme..
Lookeehere! I am driving a Porsche! But I don΄t want anyone to notice and think I am pretentious posh prick.. |
The "P Car Red Book" states for the 79 model year that there were 3 standard colors in green. 265 OakGreen Metallic, 274 Olive Green, and 275 Light Green Metallic. Does your car still have its color code tag on it? Could it have been either a "special wish" color or reprayed over the years.
It's not my car. It's just ad I saw for a car I'm considering. The ad said olive green but I was confused because some of the other olive greens I've seen were more brown/yellow. Thanks for all the replies
I call it really cool green... I too am a fan of the color "anything but red, black and silver"
I'm calling that 'John Deere Green'. Go to your local farm supply store and pickup a rattle can and check. I'll bet the north forty and a farrowing sow that's what it is.
I think you're right. I can go down to the Fleet Farm and get touch up paint.
Growing up in the Midwest, that color is seared onto my retina. It's pretty cool on a Porsche, don't you think? Are you gonna buy it?
Good luck finding those matching yellow Recaro seats. Regards, |
Not sure yet, having the PPI done today. If it comes out good I may own "the frog"
Let us know how it works out

Here's the PPI done by Chris at Moto-Delta
79 SC 110,000 miles. He's asking 13,900. I'm hoping to make the 4 hour deive this weekend to see and hopefully bring it home. Any thoughts on this info. Suspension: Struts are Bilstein. Appear to be recent/working well. Sway bar bushings intact Swing arm and front torsion bushings good. Car drives straight and level, no creaking on corners. Some overspray on spring plates. Pivot plates have surface rust. Body mounts solid Steering rack tight l&r tie rod end boots torn Brakes work well. 75% pad life Tires & wheels conti sport contacts - 80% life left 205/55/15 front - 225/50/16 rear Ronal wheels. no damage but significant white overspray on left rear wheel. Body Underbody in good shape, no rust Recent "tape and paint" respray. (ie windows, etc.. not removed for painting) no evidence of substantial accident or rust repair on body/fenders "wave ding" in passenger door. nickel sized ding on upper driver door some rust on passenger side door sill. 1"x1" section appears to be "soft" from this. 1/4"x1.5" chip in right front fender (near wheel lip) Aftermarket fiberglass turbo tail Aftermarket fiberglass front valance. Cracked badly on left side of oil-cooler cutout. Very loose. Targa top ion good shape except for 1" tear in center (owner mentioned it occured just yesterday) Quarter inch paint chips in front bumper. Two 1/4" x 2" scrapes on drivers side front. Two crescent shaped gouges in drivers rear fender, appear to be filled in with touchup. No evidence of fiberglass filler (Bondo) on body. Front and rear windsheild seals "stiff". No evidence of leaks. Side window seals still quite flexible. Deck lid doesn't pop when release pulled. REquires 2 ppl. Hood safety latch over center. Possible spring misalignment. Fog lights loose. Interior: Excellent shape with new leather. Dash has plastic dash cover over brown leather. Engine: Right and left side cam-housing covers leaking Possible pulley seal leakage. Right side oil-pressure sender seepage Right and left lower valve covers show seepage. Both heat exchangers rusted. Left side has no fan hose. Front half rusted open (box not header). Right side has tear from road debris May be slight exhaust tick. No evidence of broken head studs. Engine runs well, quiet, no valve noise paint overspray on right cam cover Air pump removed. oil pressure good. 30psi@ idle. Certain amount of cosmetic "patina" on engine, hoses starting to dry out. No mechanical issues related to this. LEAKDOWN Test: (done at engine operating temp, 100 psi) Cylinder 1: 7% (rings) Cylinder 2: 8% (rings) Cylinder 3: 5% (rings) Cylinder 4: 6% (rings) Cylinder 5: 5% (rings) Cylinder 6: 5% (rings) Misc.. windhsheild washer fluid hose perforrated |
To me, the price sounds pretty high considering the cheap re-spray, rust issues, body damage/dings/gouges, torn Targa top, and no Fuchs wheels.
If you are set on an SC Targa, you should be able to find a clean, no-issues car in that price range with a little patience. |
Sounds like it needs some work - updating, routine maintenance. There's a handfull of cosmetic issues as well. To fix the oil leaks, you'll have to drop the engine. You'll want to get the Carrera hydrualic tensioners and CIS popoff valve installed, too. I'm thinking 13.9K is way high for a dinged up and not too well sorted out SC.
Sounds like an 8-10K car at best. Opinions may vary. But it is a 911 and once you sit in it, it could be all over for you. Hope it works out for the best, whatever you decide. There are others for sale, too. Regards, |
