how to avoid carbonmonoxide poisoning

how can i tell if my heat exchangers are leaking into the cabin of my car...the heater is really weak, and after driving for awhile and it smells like the car is running rich, inside the car. for sure the car is not running rich b/c just had a new ignition, coil, plugs and injectors and seals replaced and fuel air mixture adjusted for another issue i was having a few months ago

Since you are there in Oakland you can probably go down to the general aviation side of the airport and buy a carbon monoxide detector. It's a simple cardboard piece that turns color when exposed to carbon monoxide and generally used in airplanes since they use similar heating systems to 911s.

Or you could go down to Lowes and buy a battery operated CO2 detector for about 20 bucks, then when you're done using it on the car you could hang it in your house. Just my thought.

I would get a handheld CO detector, -which is designed for mobile use, I use them in my line of work and they read very quickly, and will display an actual count in PPM, so you'll know what is going on. price wise they start at around 20 and go up from there.

Remember, you cannot see or smell CO, so don't try to judge exposure based on smelling exhaust-not that you want exhaust in the car either, but don't assume that if you cannot smell exhaust, then you are not being exposed to CO.

hmmm, I just open my window in case.

I guess that doesn't count does it?

Time to go shopping again. I think this will be handy just in case. ...
