one last thing, the answer is definitely Technical. this has driven me nuts for 2 years, just ordered a ton of parts from Pelican to fix it, only to find that none of them will. In fact, to fix this, without ordering an entire new part, doesn't require any new parts.

good guesses so far, but this is a bona fide technical post. it's part of my 69, but could be on an 89, with proper modifications.
