Type of Ac hoses - which do I have?
 

I think I may have a mix due to all of the AC work that has been done to the car by the PO. I have 3 condensors, 2 of which are up front. Anyway, can you guys tell me what type of hoses (flare or oring or both) I have as I'm planning on ordering a new set from rennaire asap?

One can't typically tell for sure from the outside; need images looking straight in at the hose fitting or the fitting it connects to.

I replaced my AC hoses last year on my 1973.5T with factory AC. My hoses were covered with red cloth/fabric and were the original Porsche barrier hoses. I took them all off and went to an "Auto Cool" shop in Atlanta where they were able to use the original fittings and replaced the red hose with black rubber barrrier hose. I had them adda few extra inches on each hose and insured that the fittings were c onfigured properly. It was a few hundred bucks to get it all done. Any AC shop in your town can do it. You do have the updated factory barrier hose. They may all be just fine too! These are tough re-enforced hoses. Since your compressor is off removing all the hoses is not that difficult. Your going to have to remove them anyways if your replacing. The toughest hose is the one from the drier that goes thru the front fender well into the truck and turns into the smuggler box evaporator. You could simply uncouple the fittings, clean the threads inspect the hoaes and retighten, R&R the drier, add the compressor and charge with R134 with a lube and sealant additive and see if you have any leaks. I have the front and rear condenser set up as well. Make sure the fan is working that cools the front condenser. Good luck.

Jim do you know where an image is of both types?

How can you tell that from the images? Were you able to read the hose specification lettering somewhere in the images? There is black jacketed barrier and non-barrier hose and it can and will likely have the same OD. It appears to me that there is a mixture of OEM all steel and possibly newer steel/aluminum fittings either of which could be flare or o-ring type although I would conjecture the all steel types are flare fittings. The newer steel/aluminum fittings may be (likely) installed on barrier hose.

Thanks Jim. I just got a couple of the hoses off and confirmed what Jeff at Rennaire thought. The only oring fittings are the ones connected to the compressor.
