Can I use an MSD and a Crane XR700 together?

Like the title says:) I just installed a '77 2.7L engine in my car, but the dizzy has no points in it. I allready have an MSD 6AL and MSD coil installed, can I use my Crane XR700 with that?

Thanks
Kevin

You don't even need the XR700 package, just the optical trigger. Feed the white wire from the distributor into the MSD as a points input. Will work with no problem.

perfect, I'll give that a try. Thank you.

Not wanting to clutter up my garage with more stuff, I left the XR-7 box in the car and installed a Crane Hi6S on top of everything. I know, not the KISS principle, but it ain't broke, so I ain't fixing it...... yet.

The connections to an MSD box should be similar.

I've got that in my car. I posted a schematic a couple of years ago. If you do a search on my posts and "ignition" you'll most likely find it pretty quickly.

Here's my Hi6S with a XR-700. Solo XR700 since 1998. Combo still works fine after 3+ years. Crane Hi6S was mounted this way to access the rpm limiter controls on one end.

Again, thanks for the replies, very helpfull info. But the engine is out of the car again, it seems to be locked up, it will turn almost a full rotation and stop and it will turn back and stop. Good enough reason for me to pull it apart and throw in my RS(or better) pistons and some S cams :D

Thanks
Kevin
