Koni insert pictures?
Does anyone have any pics they could post, of Koni inserts?
I finally got around to removing the front inserts lastnight. I removed the large collar nut on the top of the strut (it has two holes opposite of each other) & pulled out what I thought would be some type of complete, sealed cartdridge unit or somethings. What came out was what I'd consider to be the internals of a shock. It was a mess, oil every where!! I quickly moved this "thing" over the top of a pan to catch the oil, and at that point, it basically fell apart. This is not what I was expecting to find. I'm looking for pictures to give me an idea of what I will see when I open the box containing my new inserts. Thanks, ~Chris F. |

Chris,
I could not find any of the inserts only the rears. I have Koni sport adjustables all around. The same thing happened to me, parts came out along with alot of gunk. I cleaned the inside of the shock housing out, put in the inserts and put in some antifreeze for coolant, then tightened everything up. That was a year ago and they have been great ever since. If you have any questions, just let me know, Cheers

My 72 was the same.
On the early cars they had oil filled struts. Hope the pics help.

thanks for the replies,
poorsha: your picture shows what I was expecting, a contained type insert, that would simply slide out of the top of the strut. I'm wondering if I have left the casing for the insert in the strut, basically pulling the insert apart as I was trying to remove it from the strut. The outer thingy on my insert (or at least what I was able to remove from the strut housing) had this spiraled-like......I guess what you could consider a very very large & course thread....maybe three or four or so turns up.
I'll try to post some pictures tonight. Thanks again for the replies. ~Chris F |

76 911s, w/ Koni struts.
Those inserts you show in your pictures look nothing like what came out of my struts lastnight!! |

My 74 was exactly the same as you describe.
Just give the inside a good clean with a cloth and all will be right.

What you removed was the original innards of the strut. What you’re going to put back is a self-contained insert. Totally normal

I need the exact same inserts for my Koni Struts, the stamp # of the insert is 1638. Anyone selling a good set?
TIA, Bavaria

inserts
which ones are you refering to, the original inserts as Tim L has mentioned or the newer ones, as in poorsha's pics?
My original inserts are complete, but weren't really working all that well. |
