Electrical Cutoff switch - how to?
I'd like to fit an electrical cutoff switch into my 911, and I'm wondering how to install it? If I put it in the main battery lead from the front, it will isolate the battery, but then if the car is running the alternator will still run the car right?
I'd like this switch to be a total kill - isolate the battery in case of shorts and the alternator. Thanks! |

Don't stop until you get info from John Cramer. He knows this inside and out. Search for "kill switch" and you should find it. He helped me out tremendously. i couldn't have done it without him.

Early,
I put one in my car. Used the type we used on race cars, it is run in series between the battery and ALL other wiring. Drilled a hole and mounted it up under the dash within easy access of driver. Simple, Switch Off, battery disconnected. (If you want to save radio pre-sets you will need to run a fused link directly to the battery). But I didn't. As for a running car (IE: alternator "run-on") guess you would have to turn off the ignition too? Another two seconds?

For theft-deterance it's okay to merely open the battery circuit with a switch. However, don't disconnect the battery with engine running. Alternator will self-destruct.
The race-type switches are for driver safety and must include provisions to drain alternator voltage/current. Sherwood |
