A/C bowtie vent modification

Have SC. A/C works well.

Took off the bowtie on the firewall and was looking for and inexpensive way to put an adjustable vent on it.

Bought this vent on ebay: 8000590979.
It has an oval duct attachement on the back.

It has 'chrome' on it, but a little work with a pink eraser takes it off.

Got a 'Newmans Own' salad dressing bottle. About 10" tall.

Cut off the top just below where the bottom of the cap screws on.

Cut off the bottom about 3" from the bottom.

Spray paint the bottle black w/ paint that's ok w/ plastic. (Krylon, Rustoleum)

Use silicone sealant to attach the bottom to the vent. You have to secure it until it drys - 24 hrs.

Use the sealant to attach the top to the firewall vent.

Dab of sealant to attach the vent bottom to the top of the console. If no console, I think you could attach to the bottom of the ashtray.

It works great. Adjustable, open, close, left, right, up, down.

I'll try to post pics tonight.

Pretty stinkin' cheap. Vent, plus three bucks for the dressing, which you can use.

It's the same vent that Keuhl uses in their expensive center vent kit.

This is REALLY cheap (errrr, inexpensive).

give us some more pics when you have it in hand!

I recall seeing this thread some time ago. Great center vent install by Don Plumley using a BMW vent from a salvage yard.

Nice work Don!

It looks exactly like this:

This is the griffiths kit. It's the same vent.

Sorry, I couldn't get my pic posted.

how is air running to the vent though, what did you use?

Go back to the first post. Used a particular plastic bottle w/ top and bottom cut off as a duct. Painted black. Fit absolutely perfectly. no heating, bending or fabricating.

Removed the 'bowtie' fitting on the firewall and came from the tube in the firewall.
