Help, bolt found in sump 3.2
Dear Pelicans,
..a friend of mine found this bolt during an oil change of his 1987 3.2. Car runs fine and no shavings or other materials on both the sump bolt (magnetic) and the one on the oil tank. Bolt was stuck to the magnetic bolt of the sump. Anyone have an idea where it's from. Sorry for the blurry pic, bolt looks to have been hit.......http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1182627225.jpg PS The head of the bolt looks from rubber |

That looks like half of a rubber isolator for mounting parts like the air box on the intake plenum. Has the engine been rebuilt or had a top end done? Question is "Where is the other half of the isolator" The isolator is on the intake right in the middle sorry no pics of one not installed

Looks like a good guess Michael although it seems like its been in a fight with some other parts at some point in its life.
Someone must be able to identify the dents in it......? |
there is a chance that the bolt was laying next to the pass upper valve cover, and when the valve cover was removed it fell in, then made it's way to the sump through the oil return tube......
i would pull the valve covers and check for any damage, nics etc...... |
Thank you very much guys, will have a look and let you know what we found. Engine has not been rebuilt and no top end has been done. I am kind of relieved it may be something that fell in.

...more info, valve adjustment was done approx 3,000 miles ago together with some work to solve some minor oil leakes, the part you identified seems to be renewed. My friend will call the Porsche specialist who performed the work this week, keep you informed...
