What sequence - front end stuff?
 
In what order would you suggest that I replace the following items (1983 911SC): ball joints, turbo tie rods, bump steer kit, front sway bar bushings? Any logical progression? And where do I jack the car in the front? Can't use torsion bar ends.

Depending on condition of the parts but if all are equally bad start with safety issues, Ball Joints and Tie Rods, then Bumpsteer and Sway Bushings.

I would do Ball joints, tie rods and (if needed) bump steer together as the replacements will require you to realign and corner balance the car. You should inspect and, (if needed) replace the front bushings at this time as well.

You can do the sway bar bushings whenever you want as they do not affect the alignment or corner balance.

I jack my car via the jacing points on the side of the car. You can support the car at a point behind the front wheels where the metal turns up. Check one of the many jacking threads for the exact location.

Thanks all for input - yes, I have all manuals, but I am a tad concerned with the ball joints & turbo tie rods - just looking for a "little push" from you all to get started.

Why are you concerned with the ball joints? Sometimes it's best to leave things alone if they are within tolerance. the turbo rods are an upgrade from the rubber bushed stock rods, sot that's a different story.

On jacking, many of us place a 2 x 4 on the jack pad and put that just in front of the gas tank on the lateral support. If there is an a/c condenser there, it's more like a 2 x 2 that will fit. In this case, I use a piece of hardwood (fro strength) about 16" long. You have to be careful to situate the wood and jack pad so the wood doesn't roll or the jack pad doesn't bend something.

You may have to pre-jack the car a bit to fit this ass'y under there if the car is low. You may then place stands under each a-arm right at the front. The ones shaped with a cradle are ideal. Always wiggle the car to make sure it's stable and place a spare tire or similar (a stack of woodblocks works nicely) under the floor near where you will be working for extra safety.

You never know, we may have a damn earthquake while you're under there, so safety up.

Hi Milt - it was great to meet you & Susan - you tried following me out of the Starbucks. Re my post, I kinda like replacing suspension stuff to get as close to original feel as possible - I almost went ahead and did the a-arms, but that seemed like a little too much $.
