alternator sources

Hello fella's

has anyone bought from eagleautoelectric on *bay? See here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Porsche-Alternator-911-1984-1989-3-2-3-3-L-June-Special_W0QQitemZ140131302007QQihZ004QQcategoryZ33 573QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

This alternator works out way cheaper than any source in the UK, just wondering if i'm missing something or if the deal is a good one

cheers

OK, let me re-word it

Does anyone have a good source for rebuilt alternators, whether its ebay or any other vendor?

Are these ebay items cheap for a reason?

Thanks

I had mine rebuilt locally. Is that an option on your side of the pond? I think it saved me about $100 from buying a new one.

I recently replaced mine, ('88 Carrera), with a rebuilt one bought from Eagle Auto and no problems so far...price was very reasonable, fast shipping, correct model...cheaper than rebuilding the old one...only reason I can think of them being so cheap is sheer volume...they do all makes.

I replaced mine with an eagle auto one - when I contacted them - they do all the important stuff when they rebuild them - I have a list somewhere -

thanks for the feedback guys

i can have mine rebuilt for 125GBP, or obtain a recon Bosch for around 300GBP.....hence the query as to why its so cheap as its a lot cheaper than over here.

will investigate some more

thanks,

Eagle's unit is $150. You can buy a rebuild from Porsche dealer for $200+$40(core charge, refundable). I just replaced mine. The rebuild unit looked just like a new one. A brand new one from Porsche is $700. I think Pelican also sells good alternators.

Use heat and puller to separate the alternator and the housing. The dropping method will crack the $700 mag. case if you don't know what you are doing.

Thanks for your pics Caliber

The item on ebay is 80USD + 50USD shipping, so way cheaper than anything this side.

Hope it not cheap for a reason, thats all!

Cheers

I remember the price was $150 6 months ago. They lowered the price 50%?

dumb questions: (my application is 1982 3.0L SC engine)
1. is this alt a 90 Amp one?
2. will it fit on an SC round metal fan housing?
3. will the normal 11 blade fan also fit on this?
4. will there be any wiring changes to make?
5. any other dumb questions I may be missing?
Thanks ALL!!
Bob
