Momo Prototipo Steering Wheel Help 73 911 T

I purchased a Momo Prototipo wheel (and hub C0230) for my 73 1/2 911 T.

I got the hub nut off and removed the steering wheel.

I put the new momo hub on, and attached the steering wheel and put the hub nut back on. Problem - the wheel has a lot of play moving up and down and to the sides - no play in and out. In fact, I tried to remove the hub, and I can't get it to slide off the shaft, it feels "stuck" or locked.

Any help? Do I have the right hub? Why can't I get this thing off now?

Appreciate any help.

Tks

Bill

Could be the wrong hub, but I doubt it. With the mid-year change, I guess it is possible you have a 74+ steering shaft.

Is the hub moving side to side, or is it the actually shaft moving?

I do know that if you did not install the spring from your old wheel, it will move quite a bit.

Edit: I have a friend that had this problem on his '69, which definately was not the wrong hub. He neglected to put the spring on. As far as I know, he still hasn't gotten his wheel off. My advice would be to gently (and I mean gently) wiggle the wheel while pulling the wheel off should eventually work, but you must be patient. Oh, and don't forget to leave the nut on the shaft, so the wheel doesn't come off too fast and hit you in the face.

Scott...I think the spring is the prob...I did not install that...but did manage to get the hub off...it was like it was welded on. The shaft is now bare...and it does move a bit (1/8 inch) from side to side (no slop in and out). I had no slop in the original wheel. Any advise, and thanks for the note. Bill

I don't think it is unusual to have a little more movement than the stock wheel...at leat that is what I have experienced. Just so long as it is not excessive. There is also a washer that goes with the spring, but I am assuming you installed both. If not, you may want to try that as well.

It took me more than a half an hour of constant work to get my old wheel (LeCarra) off of my early car...and a whole lota patience.

I had exactly the same problem when installing a Proto on my '73. Install the spring and washer from your old wheel. It will then work perfectly. Still hard to get on and off, though.
