My 911's grandad ready for the paint shop...

OK...I'm usually quick and fast, tend to modify and bastardize....but I'm doing the "pretty close to original" restoration.....

Just got the COA back from Porsche. I seem to have the original engine, trans and all the parts. I've been stripping, grinding and fixing brakes....did a complete r&r on all the wheel cylinders, mastercylinder and lines.....I have a good firm pedal.

Original color is silver metallic with red leather seats and oatmeal carpet interior......

The former dickwad owner put a vinyl roof on it....great place for water to accumulate and do some major pinholing. DAPO was from NEW JERSEY...get a rope.....

Better yet....NJ titled it as a 59...it's a 58 and used the engine number as the VIN. So I gotta drag it down to DMV and straighten out all that.......

You go girl!!

All it takes is a few Porsche shows to realize how cool the ol' 356 is in it's original stock form. I've been eyeing a few forsale on the internet lately. Very tempting.

It seems lately that as the early 911s have been increasing I've seen a slight slide in the costs of the 356. Don't know why. Just something I've noticed.

Looks like you've got a great starting point. Good luck.

Gawd, I LOVE A coupes. Mike, treat this lady as nicely as you can...I'm sure you will. To my aesthetic taste? The A was the prettiest of the 356 line.

Mike -
Having seen some of your work on this thread, I'm predicting that this will be an Excellence cover candidate.

Thanks....here's a BEFORE pic of the engine. I even went so far to get the "correct" stickers. If anyone sees me with a QTip or a toothbrush...please shoot me.

Mike...this is hard for some to admit, but some models of P-cars deserve Q tips and toothbrushes...others don't. Sounds like you're learning this... Man, do I EVER feel sorry for you.

Yeah.....I'm trying to do this as a nice clean driver and still stay as original as possible. It's still 6 volt.....

So far the sport muffler, steering wheel (Nardi), the wheels (5.5 versus 4.5 wide), a modern guts but stock looking radio and the dual circuit master cylinder are the only mods.

I'm debating black powder coat as opposed to chrome trim....I live right on the ocean and chrome sucks....

So, is this a keeper for you, or perhaps something you'll pass on? If a keeper, I'd suggest a LOT of thought on your part, every step of the way. Just my own opinion here...but just sitting in an A coupe, back in '61, made me rethink my love of Brit "sports cars"...

Yep....likely a keeper. I need to unload the replica 57 Speedster though.....I'm running out of space even with two garages with five spaces.....

My approach when it comes to restoring a Porsche for myself is that I try to keep it stock, particularly appearance, but if I can improve the driving pleasure of the car then I make an exception. Things like suspension improvements and seats are big on the list of improvments.

Good chrome is a lot less likely to rust than cheap chrome. Specially if you keep it clean. If you need some pieces re-chromed just make sure it's a quality chrome job. It should last as long or longer than powdercoat.
