Can lookyloos (non-registrants) attend the San Diego Parade?
I am not registered for the PCA Parade in San Diego, but would really love to drive down from the LA area this Sunday to check things out and see the cars.
Do they allow PCA members who haven't registered for the Parade itself enter and look about for an entry fee or something? Those of you who have attended Parades in the past...was there a lot to see for non-registrants? I'm wondering if this is going to be as fun (with as many cool cars) as the Ventura Auto Fest I go to each year... |

I've been to a couple Parades and there is no charge to look around, supplier displays and that stuff, not sure when the car show and judging is but most people there are pretty anal. Whatever you do, don't touch anything.

By all means go. You will enjoy it, see some really great Porsches, and meet some interesting folks.

Thanks for the info. I saw that the concours was on Monday, but I doubt if I can take off work. They say "concours prep" is on Sunday...do most people prep their cars on site where you can see them work? Just wondering if it's worth going on Sunday.

I'm not sure...but I do know that PCA lost a long standing (he, a few years short of my NON renewed 40th year dues, ex member buddy of mine...why? The latest east coast parade, he volunteering to work but not officially sign up for the parade? Thus not "paying his dues"? Gee, he was asked to pay to attend certain events. Volunteers not paying entry fees banned from the inside circle. Hmmmm. PCA..."it ain't what it used to be"
By all means, crash the party...if you can. ![]() Your problem. I won't be there.

What's this have to do with the elitist pricks who inhabit PCA and other Porsche Gruppes these days? To my mind, the Porsche scene has "evolved" since the late 60's. Not all evolution is good.

Pure coincidence...
I just got off the phone with the Town & Country Hotel that's hosting the event and asked if the public could browse. The person I was speaking with put me on hold to check for sure, then returned to tell me sorry, no - gotta be a PCA member.

Are those PorscheDesign driving sandals that one fellow's wearing? Kewl!!
I was thinking of wearing my old Corvette T-shirt from my days of wretched dissipation. Not a good idea, huh? Actually, I'm considering rejoining to take advantage of the DEs, AXs and other driving related opportunities that membership offers. I'm not a wine & cheese guy myself, but if those who are don't dis me, I can't bring myself to dis them. Live & let live, to each his own, etc., etc.

"The autocross pit area is for participants and required pit crew only. We have a separate area for spectators. I am sure you can understand the need to keep access to this area limited. Many people will be emptying their cars out and leaving things in the pits. This is a security issue, I would hate to have a theft ruin the day for someone. There will also be cars moving around creating a safety issue. My hope is that people will understand these issues and co-operate with these policies"
http://www.pcasdr.org/Parade/epacket/AX%20Final.pdf As a participant in the event, I concur with the above. We'll have a truck open, stuff around and I appreciate the security. Spectators will be able to watch, just not peruse the pits. And I'll be wearing my members only jacket and goofy hat. You can look for me! ![]() Mad Mike |

Paul, your opinion about the PCA and the Parade in particular has been well articulated on this forum. Possibly on every thread that mentions it.
However, referring to PCA members as "elitist pricks" is not nice and inconsistent with the rules of the forum.
