Also, any gauge on how accurate they are? I have an '86 Cab white with white wheels, painted crests and the only option code is C02 which I think means it has a catalytic converter (doesn't really seem like an option to me). I would have thought the white wheels would have been and option. I'll dig up an option list for '86, but it does seem a little strange. I did run down the numbers for the hood and it is original to the car so I'm assuming the sticker is too.

Just curious...

Thanks,

Franny

Edit: I did find this: Porsche Option Decoder Which has been posted before... Enter an "*" to get the complete list. There are a ton! My car had the wheel locks and a factory alarm and neither were on the option list. Just seems a little strange. I'm pretty sure the alarm is original - it does have a correct color bezel. f

White wheels were an option. They are easily changed, as are the wheel locks. The alarm system is harder to add but I have to question what you mean by a "correct color bezel"? Got a picture of that?

I'll get one for you... The bezel around the lock bolt in the door is white. All the others I have seen are black I think. Just an assumption that they tried to color coordinate it because it was an easy color to match.

I don't think the wheels were ever cleaned thoroughly (maybe they would have been if they were acquired later?) - They still had a good deal of cosmoline on the inner wall. That was consistent with what I found all over under the car. Once again just conjecture though.

The alarm was a factory thing right? I couldn't imaging a dealer installing all that and getting it correct back in '86. It would be a lot easier on the line.

Thanks,

Franny

I have a couple photos...

Obviously not a huge deal. The car isn't exactly coucours or anything, but it would be neat to understand some history. I suppose I could get a CoA too.

Thanks,

Franny

I didn't recall the bezels on the switch being white...

If you wanted to, you could check the date codes on the wheels. If any were later than the build date, or if they varied quite a bit, then you'd know they were added later.

Right... Good call. Do you know the format off hand? I know on the older cars it was month and two digit year. Would that be the same? I'll pull one and check it out.

Thanks for the suggestion.

BTW; yes, the stickers contained errors. As an example, during research for an article that I wrote for Excellence (Feb 2012) about M 491 cars, I came across a sticker that didn't even get the trans type correct. The sticker indicated that the car was fitted with a 915/68 trans (USA 911 Carrera) instead of a 915/70 unit (USA TL Carrera). The car was fitted with a steering wheel with elevated hub, and that option appeared on the CoA, but NOT the sticker. The trunk tag did not include a number that would indicate the subject was an M 491, but neither did a 1997 issue CoA. So, it seems that Porsche didn't take the sticker as seriously as one might think. Hmmmmmm...
