Porsche Crest Has anybody lighten a stock flywheel?

Has anybody lighten a stock flywheel? Is it a good idea? Who can do it? Any recommendation would be great. I know the pros about it (quicker spin-up time, better throttle responds ect..., what about the cons? This will be a daily driver and DE car.

Thanks
John

I'm no expert in this but I understand that a pre-964 flywheel ( you didn't mention model year of your car) isn't all that heavy and you can get the same effect with a lighter pressure plate and clutch.

Anyone?

I had the flywheel lightened on my 73 2.5, and will do the 3.0 when it comes time for reworking.
took it to a local speed shop.
downside, when combined with a rsr clutch pkg, it requires a deft touch to engage smoothly.
that said, the benefits far outweight the downside. in my case anyway.

Patrick sells these. In fact, I was just on the phone with them yesterday on a different matter. The guy mentioned that they carve scallops out of the rim & have to be very very careful re balancing as the force is on the order of 500 lbs. Remember - the rim is the critical area. I would never do this myself or have anyone but an expert lighten one. Wevo & SRP also have them, IIRC.

There are problems with using them on the street or with DME systems - hit the ol' search button for more.

Flywheel, stock 3.2L 9.9
Flywheel, Fidanza T7075 5.6
Flywheel, Patrick Motorsports 6.9
Flywheel, Wevo "skeleton" incl ring gear 5.0
flywheel bolts 0.5
starter ring gear for flywheel 0.5
Clutch pressure plate & bearing, partly used 12.4
clutch disc, partly used 1.5
??? 3.5
clutch pressure plate bolts 0.4
