Seriously Considering this Car, need help justifying the price

http://www.tonygarcia.org/911SC/

Some of you may know this car or Tony and others may have seen it in the classified section.

As a car, it's great and what I'm looking for. All the great updates and modifications yet retains the sleeper look.

I know how much $$ and time went into this, but the price is what causes me not to pull the trigger. Stepping into the 30K range for a 911 Porsche opens a lot of of other doors and probably why this car hasn't sold yet.

Just want to here your opinions.

Why sell such a competent beauty with so much work and money in it ?? Time to enjoy the fruit of all labor, IŽd think.

I live a mile or less from Tony and I've seen the transformation and its a quality upgraded car. I've also driven that car and its scary fast. The interior is great and the paint is darn near perfect. Everything he listed is to the best of my knowledge true. Tony likes to tinker and for him, its the putting the goodies in the car, not just the driving. I think he wants to clear some space and get into another project. Its a sleeper alright, except for the exhaust which definitely gives it away. Oh, did I say its scary fast? He has no problem beating the pants off of just about all street legal 911s at Willow Springs. Did I say its scary fast?

You'll need to take smog laws into account if you plan to street it. Very cool car, love the cloth sport seats, and of course that motor is quite nice.
Some of the smog exempt rules for NV:
* 67 or older
* Vehicles registered as a Classic Rod or Classic Vehicle and driven 2,500 miles or less per year.
* Vehicles registered as a Replica Vehicle.

Good luck!

Tell him that you could buy it, but you'd have to strip off about $7k worth of parts and sell them on ebay one by one - unless he was willing to drop the price and keep his former baby whole.....

You couldn't build half of this car for what he's asking. By that reasoning, I say yes. Ultimate sleeper (does an SC really qualify as a sleeper????).

However, this is getting into 993 territory price wise. All depends on what you want.

There are ways around that.
Not that I would know anything about that though.

It would be difficult to find a $30,000 Porsche that's going to feel like that one. That car looks special.

Depends on what you are looking for. It is very well done, but cars like this are hard to sell. Personally, I don't like the color and I would need A/C. I would not buy this car over a nice 993 with working A/C, but if it's what you are looking for and you plan to keep it long term it looks like it would provide a lot of smiles for a long time.

The price is fair. Time to decide what you really want. This car appears to be "turn key" - needs no sorting.

I'm just curious, why would he (Tony) do that? Take it or leave it. These types of cars/projects aren't for everyone, but given enough patience and the right buyer will show! The $7K in in parts that you are referring to are part of what make the car so special! After a good laugh, I'd have to show a potential buyer the door if they tried that angle with me.

Fantastic car and a great price.

This car while a great build is not very practical for day to day. IMO this is a weekend car. Ultimately is that what you want?

Sounds like you are a bit conflicted, probably because now is the time to make a decision. From the first part of your post, you seem to have found what you're looking for, and recognize this is an example and reasonable, given the work put in.

From the second part of your post, you reflect potential buyers remorse--not unnatural. Take a deep breath, think over carefully what your really are looking for. $30K does not open a lot of doors if your are truly looking for what you claim.

I'll preface the following comments by disclaiming that I'm not up on current 993 prices.

On one hand, with Tony's car, you are chomping at a vehicle upgraded, restored, and maintained to a fanatical degree...this is truly an enthusiast's car. A "one off" of sorts. The other hand, you might be getting in on the bottom floor of a later model in it's stock configuration (within reason). Granted in it's stock form, it'll be a helluva a performer due to the gains and refinements associated with a later model.
