Somebody let me know about my car

Hi, I've had my 79sc for a few weeks now and I'm learning more about it every day,

From What I can tell from the VIN this is not a US car #9119310985. Is this a Euro car? I thought euro models had side maker lights. Mine doesn't. I know from the owner's manual it spent the first 4 years of it's life in Munich,

Also, I don't have a pasenger side mirror. I've looked a lot of pictures on here and haven't seen one that doesn't. Also, no air conditioning, no power windows, no power seats. And finally, does this car have a catalytic converter? The air pump has been removed,

Can anybody tell me about my car? Here's a pic. 79 Targa SC

Your car is RoW as you suspected. It should have had the air injection pump and no cat. Not sure about the side markers, I thought all RoW cars had them but maybe not. I believe the rest were optional except the power seats, I don't think they were available until 1984. Your car looks like it has been altered, turbo tail and front valence are not stock.

Power drivers seat became an option in '84. Both of my seats are manual. Look for a sticker under the front bonnet (hood), by the latch. Mine is missing or I'd take a picture. It should give you the number codes for what options are on the car.

The little orange plastic jobbies in the side of the fenders that this car doesn't (and shouldn't) have?

They're not side markers, they're indicator (flasher) repeaters. They don't come on with the lights, they flash in time with the flashers.

These weren't a requirement - on UK cars at least - until April 1986 - like rear fog(s) (April 1980) or rear seat belts (April 1987).

Don't know when the factory started fitting them, but I'm driving my '77 car here (legally, valid inspection certificate) with "None Of The Above".

Some people back in the day would apparently fit them to "update their look", but my '77 S is a US car, and it doesn't have them. When did they start for US cars?

RoW cars don't originally have side markers at all - impact bumper RoW cars have a rubber blank where US cars have the front side marker lamp units, the "city" or "parking" lights (sometimes called "side-lights") are the 3W bulbs in the Bosch H4s (and shine white), and the rear side markers don't have bulbs (or maybe holders/wiring) over here.

What makes me chuckle is the US guys fitting Euro rear lenses and wiring up their "city lights", and a bunch of the guys here fitting US rear lenses (when they're not taking the car for inspection, that is). Y'all should swap lenses or rent them to each other or something

Very nice targa. Great color.

My '81 ROW had no mirror, no A/C, no power seats, but it did have power windows. Also had an air pump with (gutted) cat.

After a few months of backing out of my long driveway, I decided I couldn't live without that right-side mirror. Drilling big holes in a perfect door is a little nerve-racking.

After...
