Is 30 degrees total advance for 82SC safe?

US SC. Runs really well, I can't hear any pinging. Was only reaching 20 degrees BFTDC before I advanced. Idle mixture is set to the rich side using the Souk method. Idle is solid at 900. I do not want to risk engine damage for just a small gain in power.

I believe you are good up to around 32-33 degrees at around 4000.

Is your distributor original? Have you refurbed it and checked all the internals? I dont recall if 82 had mechanical advnace weights but ifyou werent getting total advance they could be sticking.

I could see the timing advance as the RPM increased, so I think the dizzy is working properly. I can't say when it stopped advancing but it was right at 30 degrees BFTDC at 6k RPM.

Steve,

For a stock 82SC what do you consider the max safe advance when using regular (87), mid-grade (91), and premium (93)? Might as well throw in 100 octane too.

Thanks,

Mac

Mac:

I never, ever use, nor recommend anything but (92 in OR) 93 in these cars for street use so I would time the car to factory specs. Mixing 100 is only for DE use in hot weather.

91 is the highest grade available in my area, I use it exclusively.
